|
|
I got an Extreme in the fall of 2006, and in the last 2-3 months, I've had two black keys break. The first was the F# above middle C, and this past Saturday night, the G# immediately above it. I honestly don't think I was playing too hard, as it was only in the first or second set of a casino lounge gig. Hard to get too enthusiastic.
Anybody else out there had any problems with breaking keys on their Extreme? I had an Le before this, and I don't remember breaking any keys on it. |

Not that this will be of much help to you.....
I've been playing Korg keyboards all my life and I can honestly say that I have never broken a key, and I would be a heavy player.
One thing I never do though is slides. I would never drag my hand across all the keys.
Regards.

I once had a key broken of a Kawai K4 but not while playing (while bumping with the soft keyboard bag to something hard while transporting it).
I have a Korg X5 and I occasionaly ride with my desk chair to it and never broke a key (upwards force). On the Extreme I never broke a key too and I DO make slides, however mostly on the white keys.
If you are doing slides on black keys: take care you do it gently, do not bend your fingers but you straight fingers (also for white keys this is true in lesser amount). |

I just had a white key come unhinged on my Tex 61, so I took the case off to fix it (which took forever with how many screws the thing has). I put the key back in the slot, but now it won't trigger a sound when I hit it. I'm going to have to open it back up again later in the week I guess, though I rarely use the key if at all. |

A lot of people don't remember there time spent in casinos.
I know there is correlation between pushing the buttons on a slot machine and playing keys. You tend to forget why you did it _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

just seen this one..... i've had 3 black keys break - though not through playing through transport - they are a bit of a pig to get at and fix but they are fixable.
There is a little lip at the back that holds the key in place... and when it breaks it makes the key spring forward and stick down when pressed.
When i got the keyboard there was one that had been repaired (glued).
You will probably find the pieces inside the keyboard.
My advice would be either glue them and swap them with the ones at very top/bottom that you wouldnt use as much but the other option is to replace... Korg sell them or they are a yamaha DX7 key, but they aren't cheap (~£10ea from Korg) I'd have a look see if you can get some on ebay from a keyboard someone has stripped down i've seen them going for about £3 on there. |
