Hi guys, first post and all, thought id ask a question thats been bothering me for a while,

On allot of the effects on th KP3 such as grain and the synth and drum effects after taking your finger off the pad there is a delay which will fade away after a secnd or two,
Is there a way of disbaling this?? as for production, recording sections into a DAW the delay is not "always" neccisary, sometimes it smooths things out, but i need the surgical precision im available to acces with VST effects, Is this possible?
I have not added the firmware update yet, as have been seperated from my power supply since APRIL!!!! and have just got the lil badboy back up and running,

any ideas?

Before I just quote the manual, I'll admit that times it can be quite cryptic. But if you've spent some time around music hardware, you're probably already used to this. Sometimes it takes multiple reads before a manual starts to make sense. Hell, I've owned an EMU XL7 for years now, and I'm still going back to that muther fukka.

So here it is, from the KP3 manual, page 11:

"FX RELEASE

What is FX RELEASE?

Making the transition from a very hardedge
effect back to the original unaffected
signal can often times be very abrupt or
sudden. With FX RELEASE, the moment
you take your hand off the touch pad (i.e.,
the moment you turn off the effect), a delay
effect synchronized to the current BPM
will be applied, and will then gradually diminish.
This lets you smoothly and musically
transition from a aggressive effect
such as Distortion or Decimator back to
the “thru” state.

Saving the FX RELEASE setting

You can save a different FX RELEASE setting
for each program.

1. To adjust the depth of the FX RELEASE
effect for the currently selected program,
hold down the SHIFT button and use the
FX RELEASE slider.

2. Press the WRITE button.
The WRITE button and PROGRAM
MEMORY button will blink. The SHIFT
button will be lit, and will operate as an
EXIT button.

3. Press the WRITE button once again.
The program will be written, and the KP3
will return to normal operation.

NOTE If you’ve selected an effect program that already
uses delay, the FX Release function will not be
used, but the delay sound within that effect program
will remain the moment you take your finger off the
touch pad, producing a similar effect."

Hi
I'm not the most savvy when it comes to hardware, but i have followed the steps above with my new kp3 (and the manual, although its the same thing so whatever), and I cant seem to turn the frickin delay off on the drum/synth presets. for the record when i'm on one of those presets I

a)hold down the shift button

b)move the fx release fader to zero

c)press write button (after which programme memory buttons blink)

d)move the fader down again for good measure

e)press write again (after which it stalls for a split second)

Ive tried this with all the synth/drum presets, and even the delay presets, just to see if that was what was actin up. still get this delay. Am i completely retardeD? any ideas would be appreciated;)

I only just got my KP3, so I haven't been able to puzzle this one out, either. However, some effects have delay enabled and Drums is one of them. I don't have my cheat sheet in front of me, so I don't know if it's on all the drums but the Y axis controls delay.

Some of the other effects don't list delay on the sheet but seem to have it. It hasn't been an issue for me, but trying to figure out whether the FX release setting is the issue or it's just part of the effect has been hit or miss.

Still and all, I've been having a lot of fun playing with this thing.

How much time do people spend experimenting before posting here? Not much apparently.



The drum programs (drM.1, .2, & .3) have delays because they are an integral part of that particular program. The delays only sound when you have your finger higher up on the Y axis. If you don't want delays on those programs slide your finger along the bottom edge (x axis).

You can read what modulations you have for a given axis by downloading the effects reference for the KP3.

I must have been unclear on my post - that's exactly what I meant about the drum parts - the delay is built in. Sorry for the confusion. (And I only had a few hours over the weekend to experiment with my unit - it had the pad alignment defect :-( and I'm awaiting a replacement from the store)

Thanks for the PDF link - I looked for it on the Korg site, but only saw the manual.

The other effects seemed to have delays even when not listed, but again, I'm still learning the unit.
