Hello friends,
I have been thinking about modernising my mixing setup. You see I have 6 hardware synthesiser going into a Behringer analog mixer (1 stereo out) and into a 2496 Audiophile soundcard. Usually I'm too lazy to record one track at a time and record it all into one audio track...
An ideal solution would be to have a mixer that can send 6 or more channels via firewire to DAW so that I could record all 6 (or more) channels simultanously. One option I considered was this: http://www.thomann.de/de/alesis_multimix_16_firewire.htm
I would be grateful for further suggestions / comments as I can clearly see that my current setup is a bit out of date

I use a Mackie Onyx 1620, the pre's are noisy only if you use very very high gain, someone say it doesn't sounds good... I really wonder what do they use in their studios... with it you have 4 stereo and 8 mono inputs with 2 hiZ/mic inputs. I can record something with it as soon as I go back home so you can hear its quality. There is also a smaller version with 4 mic inputs and 4 stereo input, but you loose the perkins eq you can find on the 1620, but if you don't need an equalizer (the multitrack firewire audio is prefaders and pre eq) the smaller version could be a good solution.

Thanks Lorenzo, I would probably go for 8 stereo inputs. Does it come with IFX as well?
So if I understand correctly this mixer would allow me to connect up to 8 synths and record all of them simultanously, on separate tracks in Cubase?

no effects... and no 8 stereo input... on the 1620 you have 4 stereo and 8 mono (you can use them as 4 stereo pair...).

Yes, thats what I meant; it seems that Alesis offers the best price/performance ratio but having read a review of their mixer I'm concerned about its quality.
We'll see, I'll take my time to do the necessary research.
Thanks for feedback! |

I see, still its 1285 Euro
http://www.thomann.de/de/search_dir.html?sw=onyx+1620
...so I'll probably settle for the Alesis
I really see the need to improve my mixes. The first step, which I have already taken, was to replace my cheap Sennheiser HD 202 with AKG's 240s (they're on their way). |

and you can trust that shop, it's a well known shop... Diego use to live really near to it and many times bought from them some keybs.

I use the PreSonus Firepod and it works great. I believe they are down to $399. You can run 8 channels, the preamps are decent, and it has the Neutrik connectors so you can chose between 1/4" or XLR connections. It really does a lot better than the E-mu I was using with no preamp. And you can chain them together to make more tracks.
2 Firepods = 8 stereo tracks = $800 _________________ DEVICE - CLICK HERE!

thanks,
I would actually need to have 8 stereo inputs. My understanding is that Alesis multimix 16 is capable of running 8 stereo channels (4+[2x4]) via firewire?
If so it would seem to offer the best $/channel ratio |
