I have a microkorg and am very happy with it. Recently I have been making sounds on my computer. I am looking for a keyboard that will take a sound I produce and allow me to play it on the keyboard with the pitch of my sound changed accordingly to the notes on the keyboard.

Now I am not sure what keyboard would work. I was thinking a MIDI controller would do what I am talking about but I am not sure.

So what instrument do I need?

Thanks a lot,

-JT

What are you using on the computer to create sounds? A software synth, or some sort of sound (WAV file) editor?

If you're using a soft synth, you can get a USB MIDI adapter, plug your MicroKorg into it, and use it as a keyboard controller to control your soft synth.

If you're creating WAV files, you'll need a keyboard with sampling capability, such as a Korg Triton, M3, Yamaha Motif, Roland Fantom or any number of sampling synths that exist. Or you could get sampling software for your computer, bring your sounds into that, and use the MK to control it.

I am using wav files that I make in either Audacity or Adobe Audition.
Would the K-series controllers do what I am looking for? If not what is the cheapest korg that will take my wav and let me play it on the keys?

Thanks

You'll need something with user sampling capability such as a Triton Extreme or M3, or equivalent software on your PC.

The K-series controllers won't do it by themselves but combined with soft synth software on your computer they could trigger the samples on your computer. But you can also use your microKorg as a controller if you go that route.

Sorry for breaking the buy another Korg product rule, but this is a free app that will take your sample and allow you play it pitched out on your keyboard.
