Jurgen,
I thinks its actually slower to load larger sets seperately after boot up. From off to on it only loads once - to load a set later loads the Pcm to Ram AND copies the PCM to your current set (twice as slow).
Q. Is it true that for PA800/Pa2x that once loaded its stays there after powering off?
John

HI all.
I,m using samples al the time.
Loadind time depends of course the size of the samples.
I Can load 32 mb in 3 minutes, try to clean HD, dont heave the unused files, and make back up on PC, then Format HD on pax!And put your files back, IT HELPS a lot for loading time.
Some times its corrupted files and thats makes the load time slower.

I also wonder, is there faster HD,s for PAX?I mean can we use SSD,s?
Can the OS handle faster ram,s and faster HD,s?
Can we make anything to make the loading time faster?
NEDIM?Can you tell us?
TRAMMANONI?
Any one.
I, think(HOPE) the pa2x & 800 is newer system, and can load the samples, 124 mb much faster.i Trust KORG!
Couse i dont think KORG is so DUMMY to make a KB whit stupid OS that loads slower than PA1x series.
It,s newer better faster than ne Pa1x series.
Nedim abi, whats your loading time?
Is there any one from KORG that can give us a Report?
Mr Trammanoni?
And one more thing, Is korg planning to heave the EXB,s as USB,s?
can we buy this option in the future?
REG, T.

You can, but it would be a complete waste of money.
A dirt cheap HDD can push out 15MB/s easily. Meaning it should take 2 seconds to load a 32MB set into your Pa1X...... IF you Pa1X could take it, which it can't.

The bottle neck here is the Pa1X itself. It just doesn't have the CPU power to do it.

KORG can however do something to speed it up if they wanted to.

Here's a test if anyone wishes to try it.
Step 1: Time how long it takes for your Pa1X to boot up without any samples set to Auto Load.
Step 2: Now time how long it takes to bootup with the samples set to auto load
Step 3: If you take the time it took for step 1 away from step 2, your left with how long it takes the Pa1X to just load the samples.
Step 4: Boot the Pa1X up again without the samples set to auto load, and now manually load them.

Notice it will take twice as long to load the same amount of samples. This is because CPU cycles are not fully devoted to the loading process this time, and you can do things like press a few keys while the samples are loading. KORG would be better off doing the same here as they do for all their workstations. Cut the sound dead and give the full power of the CPU to the loading process.

Regards.
Sharp.

Asena,
If Nedim is correct about the sounds remaining after powering off then there is no problem. You could load 128mb (or 256mb) on the PA2x ONCE at home and all sounds are permanently available even if you switch off and back on - no loading time - just the standard boot up time.
Best,
John

Clarifying a few things about samples, the samples will not stay in the RAM if you power off, the programs or drum kits which are created using samples do remain in system which have locater which tell the keyboard that which sample to use on which key however the samples "wave files" will not remain in system you will have to load them every time you boot your PA and that goes for most of the samplers as RAM is volatile memory, the option in PA is to auto load all the samples during startup, I might not be the right person to clarify it clearly however samples does not remain in the keyboard they do remain in the hard drive or thumb drive (in case of PA800).

Hi Nedim..
Can you specify how the samples remain after the keyboard has been shut off?
Everytime I turn off, and turn on I have to load PCM...
Let us know if there's a way around this.

Hi all together,

here are my newest experiences:

in this moment I have 23MB PCM Data to load in my PA2Xpro.

- the booting WITHOUT PCM lasts about 68 seconds
- the booting WITH 23MB of PCM lasts about 80 seconds

that means:
12 seconds for 23MB!

if I'm calculating right, this gives about 67 seconds for 128MB
and about 134 seconds for 256MB.

I'm going to check this out, please be patient...

regards
Jürgen

12 sec for 23mb it's very good !
but I don't understand how you have calculate for 128 mb
23mb x 12sec = about 1,91sec x 1 mb
then 128mb = 1,91 x 128 = 245 sec = about 4 minutes
or I'm wrong ?

no

23MB =12 sec. = 1,9MB/s
128MB = 67 sec = 1,9MB/s (it´s 128MB/1,91MB7s=67s)

it´s a normal rule of three
