hey guys,im real new 2 this side of music now.i just bought myself a korg r3,and was wondering how to hook it up to my pc..mine came with midi cables aswel..are they any use?or is my best bet to with a usb cable?

Congrats for this cool little synth. You don't need MIDI cables to connect the R3 to your computer. Simply install the drivers, then connect the USB cable. That's all.

congratulations from me too! I have one of these little wonderful instruments myself and love it.

when you connect the R3 to your computer via USB and once you install the drivers, you will be able to use it as a MIDI controller. in case you don't know, no sound is transmitted via MIDI, so if you want to record the actual audio from it, you will have to connect its stereo master output to the input of your soundcard.

make sure you get the right audio cables and maybe an external sound card if you don't have one, because you won't get a very satisfactory sound by connecting the R3's phones output to a simple input jack on your computer.
