Just a first experiment, it's made of a soft exotic wood (easy to shape)
The project is to change also the aluminium strip of the panel.
I just wanted to see how it looked and how the instrument would behave as I have been told that the aluminium profiles are there not only for aesthetics, but also for cooling porpouses.
I already used it in live live gigs (you can see a dent on the wood) and I had no heating problems........sorry, it did not have heating problems.......I had........
The problem with the profile of the upper panel is its particular side shape, which is complex (impossible) to shape from a single piece of solid wood.
The plan is to make an under profile which will hold the panel and make a thin wood cover to screw upon it........I do not know if I will ever be able to finish it.........

customsynth site is very interesting.........instead of managing myself with a real saw (I prefer sawtooth waves)........uhm......assuming that there may be more people interested in "putting some wood on the oasys"......you know, a single custom unit is much more expensive than a (small) production bunch........may be we can collect our interest here and ask for a quotation for more than "just one custom-ization".........

I recommend that you contact Customsynth and ask for a quotation -
whether for a fully modified synth or simply for end panels. You'll find the
prices are incredibly reasonable.

It's in the 'hundreds of pounds/euro/dollars' to have a JX3P completely
modified as per the example on the web site. I fully intend to have one
done in the next year or so - by buying a not very good condition one
from eBay and have them completely modify it. I even asked about the
JX8P and JX10 - and they are prepared to look at any customisation
required - but at what are incredibly reasonable prices.

So I expect that a set of end panels for an OASYS will be equally very
reasonable, even if ordered on a one off basis.

Please note that I have no vested interest in this company - I was made
aware of them about six months ago by a UK based master synthesizer
restorer and OASYS owner called Kent Spong, and he recommended that I
check them out for new end panels for my Yamaha CS70M. I could not
believe how straight forward there were and how reasonable their prices
were.

Overall, a very interesting company.

I am going further on with custom synth in order to modify the sides and the aluminium upper panel strip and make them in wood.

The main problem is the aluminium strip which has a very strange profile which cannot be reproduced in wood.
So the idea is to apply a wooden profile on to it (the thinnest possible)
To do so, the best thing would be to have the real aluminium strip available (to correctly shape the wood)

May be some of the Korg staff knows if such strips are available as spare parts?
