There was a guy who used to come here, called himself TWH, and he owned a TR.
He helped me a great deal, when I was having problems with my PC, so I helped him get started sampling, and using Sonar for recording.
In November he fell on hard times, so I bought his high powered computer, and his TR, for a very good price.
I was very happy to help a friend, and get a really powerful PC, and a spare TR, (I already had one).
Then the madness started.
I recieved the TR, and the PC via Fed Ex, on Dec 1st.
The TR was fine, but the PC was heavily damaged, so we called Fed Ex,and explained this, after much ado, Fed Ex issued a call tag for pick up to inspect the PC, and ...get this...send it back to the shipper!
I agreed, only because that's the only way Fed Ex would consider the claim, and TWH assured me that if I sent him a new case, which I did, he could make it good as new. So fed came and got it, then....
They Lost it!
Fed Ex claims to have set it on TWH's front porch when he wasn't home, TWH says he never got it, and the Police can't figure out what the heck happened.
So...I'm out a substantial amount of cash, and a computer.
We appealed to Fed Ex, the Attorney General, two consumer advocate groups, AARP, and the Better Bussiness Bureau, and then Fed Ex decided to pay.....TWH....
They said, because he insured the PC, even though it was with MY $, that they would pay him, not me.
They lost MY computer that I paid him for, but they want to pay him again.
Here's the really sad part, TWH has vanished!
Phone disconnected, Cops can't find him yet, and he doesn't answer emails. Heck, he doesn't even know Fed Ex want's to give him money as far as I know.
Have you ever?????

I ship valuable new and antique mil. spec. materials at times. I have had trouble with most shippers, but more with your nemesis...

Wow! Sorry to hear that! I've got a feeling TWH is the problem, and not FedEx... |

OMG, what an incredible story!
It sounds Murphy's law has never been so right
Is there ay way to make FedEx pay you, instead of TWH?

What form of payment did you give him?
Why do I think I may already know the answer to that?
You may have a good small claims case against FedEx if you can prove all the details you've described. FedEx is in a bad spot if they can't show a signed delivery receipt when they returned the computer to him. It would be negligent of them to leave a valuable package unattended. |

I have been saying this all along.
When I received the computer initially, a signature was required. Why it would be different on the return trip is way beyond me.

I have his hometown police looking into that possibility, even though I don't want to believe that. I trusted him completely, and would really feel foolish if they do find out that he was dishonest with me.
At this point, I'd be delighted to have the damaged PC back, so I could have it repaired, and move on.

Stephen,
I am sorry to hear you are in a bad situation.
It is common for the shipper (normally a retailer) to file a claim and receive any funds.
If FedEx hasn't paid TWH, I would suggest trying to get the money from FedEx. You should be able to prove you already paid TWH. |

Well.....we found out today, that Fed Ex issued a check to our Mr Hughes on the 1st of Feb.
Now I understand a lot of what's happened, the guy has totally ripped me off!
He not only has my money, and according to the police detective I talked to, maybe even the computer I bought that Fed Ex forced me to send back to him , but now he gotten paid again by Fed Ex because the insurance I paid for, is in his name.
What a crock!
He gets paid twice, and I get the shaft.
I'll bet he's laughing his tush off!
Man! It doesn't pay to trust some people.
I am NOT finished with this! Not even close.

Guys...one of the big lessons to get from this is Always be the sender. If Fed Ex (or someone) else tells you that they need the computer sent. Tell them that you will only if you are the shipper and (then pay for it). To all in the industry (Fed Ex, UPS, DHL) in their eyes, their only interest is to the shipper and the shipper alone. If you are getting something from someone on you own money. Don't send them the money, send them the (filled out) airbill instead which has you as the shipper and the insuror. I strongly suggest also that you only send items for signature only {Direct Signature Required].
I hate that Stephen's good nature was criminally defrauded. I hate it for two main reasons: (1) I have benefited from Stephen good nature because of the way he did business with me and (2.) I have worked in another part of Fed EX for over 20 years.
Mr Hughes truly is the thief here. He should be slowly eviscerated with a dull knife. He will eventually get his reward. I just hate that Stephen might not. Eventhough I am in the industry, I probably would have done the same thing that Stephen did before learning this hard lesson. We should all learn from this.
Good Luck, brother. _________________ “I’m into scales right now.”

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!
I am sure there is some small lesson here, but from everyone's reply it is understandable the expression "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch". Unfortunately, with any bad experience, we tend to base our entire future dealings as a result of that.
Not to sound preachy, but never let one or two idiots ruin how you deal kindly and trustingly with others. I can tell from your posts here Stephen and our too short interactions that you are a step above many. Stay there.
And I am with you, it seems this Hughes person is the problem. It WILL bite his ass one way or another sooner than he thinks. That is a universal law that has really never failed.

True, it will come bak to him, and when it does I hope he remembers the guy who decided to forsake a brand new computer, (possibly a Mac), and buy his used PC because he was in financial difficulty.
Don't get me wrong, I was eager to start using the one I bought from him, it was a monster. Much more powerful than mine, although mine's not bad either.
I don't wish him any bad luck, but I learned decades ago, that the bad you do brings bad to you.
Hey!!! Song title there, or what!!!
Thanks Jon. _________________ Stephen

I just got in on this. I am very upset to hear all this. There's nothing like feeling violated and stepped on, even though it may not be your own doing, it still hurts to be on the other side as the victim of this sort of thing. Unfortunately, as Jonsolo said we base our future dealings on our past mistakes, and I will admit that I probably wouldn't or will not buy from someone here or other internet sources just because I don't trust the internet world and the real world to be the same. As much as we all feel like friends here, we really don't know each other at all for the most part. Especially after things like that shooting at NIU, you see that people often are not what they seem. It's fine for sharing ideas and encouragement, but when it gets personal we become vulnerable. I feel like an ass sometimes when I don't help people out when they seem to need it, but rarely is it someone that I know at that level where I really know that what I'm doing really will help them. Look at the food and money we have sent to Africa and it sat on the docks and spoiled because of political problems in the country. I have family members that have called me periodically to borrow money and I tell them no, that I don't have it. I just don't think it really helps people most of the time.
Anyway, I hope you get some justice from this. I believe it is important to protect ourselves as well as speak out against injustices, personally and socially. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose
