|
|
Hi!
I discussed a little with George about giving a new structure to the OSAM section; we both agree that everyone should suggest how to re-organize it, so we don't get lost while browsing.
I show you my idea:
Code: |
OSAM section
Feb 08
Mar 08
Checklist (locked)
Summarize
About the month
Gerge - title
Diego - title
...
Lorenzo - title
Apr 08
...
Jan 09
|
So, we should divide the OSAM section in 12 more sub-sections, one per month, where every one post inside his own song for that month; in every month's folder I was thinking about putting the "checklist" topic (locked, where just George can post and edit the completition list), the "about the month" topic where we can discuss about how it's going the composition, how ideas are flowing, and so on...and finally, when the month is ended, the "Summarize" topic, where we can express our feelings about global quality of tunes posted, common issues during the month, and so on.
Maybe it's a few complex, we can think about something better, if we feel we need it in the next months.
Let me know what you think. _________________ Diego http://www.myspace.com/diegoinmusic

I like this except I don't know how to go about implementing this idea. Would these be topics listed as sticky's in order of the months. So people would not be starting their own thread unless they want to do a thread below the sticky? Then we would have 12 sticky's for each category? It might work to do that. I do agree we should be as organized as possible. If others like this idea, Diego. Maybe you could set up March's threads and I can make them sticky's if everyone likes what you've done. Any other ideas people? _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

let's create a button for when I enter here and listening to some of your tune I decide that I'm not a producer, so that instead of start slamming my head on the wall I just press that key and everything will go in the right direction... _________________ http://www.synthaddicted.com |

My question Diego, is how do we do these sections? I only have the ability to make threads sticky and to lock them to stop new posts. We don't have the ability to add subsections, unless there's something I don't understand as the moderator. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Hey guys ... we can't create those kind of "subforums" here.
One variant of what you're suggesting that I think would be good is to put a link to the song and a link to the thread about that song next to the artist name in the sticky completed thread for the month.
Having said that I rather enjoy the kind of "organic" nature of it at the moment

Thanks Daz for clearing that up. I couldn't see how we could do the subsection thing. And we don't want zillions of main sections either, that would be even more cluttered. As it is, I think if people do post their song titles clearly and the month it is for, we can keep track of them and find them for reference. Your idea would be fairly easy though, I think I could just go in and copy their link?? _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Hi...Been out of it a bit...My wife is better, but I'm not!! Her illness is debilitating me....
But wanted to comment on this. I am willing to go with the flow to a point, but believe this is unusually complicated for a small number of posters, as it would (as posted by Daz), be almost equiv. to sub-forums..and I don't see the need...
Feel free to tell me to butt out if I am missing something...!!!
I WILL post a "mess" next few days, for March, and will try to stay within the format of naming myself...but may forget to do it, as it is already together.......Please except... , and will get the other few songs from Feb. listened to as well!!!!!!!!
My Regards!! John, ellll |

The best bet might be to standardise the thread titles for the songs, as we've talked about before.
That should make them stand out from the general threads. _________________ Chordial |

Yes, this sounds nice to me.
If we can't create subsections with phpBB2, so let's standardise thread's names...

Based on the above, I propose the following:
One folder per month for group discussion - moral boosting etc. We do this now, but it is in the who completed check box post.
I think we should separate the check box post to a dedicated post (can be a sticky during the OSAM). In the check box post - only the moderator - George - can post and he will check those who've completed and put a link in underneath the check box post for each completed tune.
I hope that didn't sound confusing. All I am suggesting is to separate the group posts from the who completed this months posts. _________________ Care for a jelly baby?

Drwho, while the checklist is a sticky, I didn't see a problem with people commenting there as the first post of the sticky is the checilist it doesn't really hurt anything if people comment there, about the month. However, if it's better organized to do it as a separate sticky post, we can do that just as easily. Maybe I can start a sticky called Please Help Me In March and we'll start over with March comments and support. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Ok, so here you are the proposed structure:
Code: |
[month (3 uppercase letters)] [year (2 digits)] - Checklist --> started by admins (locked, just for admin usage)
[month] - Help Me --> started by admins
[month] - [author] - [title] --> started by the author of the song
[month] - Summarize --> started by admins
|
I'm still wondering about the "Summarize" topic...I think it should be usefull to have at the end of the month a space to talk.
I was thinking about having just one "Checklist" topic, with one post for every month, so just one locked thread where every month the post is edited to add the check for the author, and then on the next month a new post is created.
BTW, we are not obliged to use a new "standard", I just think it's better to be have a little less confused environment.
Let me know what you think.

Like was suggested at the outset, the best thing for us to do is normalize the topic we start for our songs. George, make a decision. We will abide by it. I think it should include our name and the month and year at the very least just so we know who has uploaded songs for that month and can comment rightly on them.
As to stickies for help each month, I have no problem with that either.
As a suggestion I would UN-sticky each previous month so it eventually drops off the list and the confusion gets dropped.
I make these suggestions because I do think we need to be able to discuss other relevant topics here besides just our song for that month. But the songs (the whole reason we do this) can get lost if a lot of topics get started.
For myself I have made a personal check list at home so I can check up on you guys...no really, so I make sure that if I somehow missed your song it is simply because it is not uploaded yet.
But keep it simple. Whatever we do. Simple.
