The only thing you can do with the sound on the audio input is put a comb filter on it (see also page 38 in the manual).
Or also : http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/6370/audioinoo3.jpg |

Hi!
I'm using routing emx->emx sometimes.
Here is my youtube channel
http://youtube.com/betterburg
In "Dirty Drums", drums routed through audio-in;
In "Dub Machine" dub-like snare is routed, to use filters.
In "itchy mosquito bite" there are scratch-like sounds, routed to use 2 lfos.
In Busta Rhymes remix all drums are synth parts only. |

Is the use of Mono cables essential when using this technique, or will stereo cables produce the same sound?
Thanks for any suggestions! |

1. To make drums sound more natural I do a +8 depth pitch mod on every one and set it to random or other. Works well on ride cymbals
2. Use accent and adjust its level with the level knob.
3. route some drums to a guitar distortion pedal on 3/4 and adjust.
4. Layer multiple snare samples. (accent = both samples triggered and non-accent = our main snare sample)
If you use those in combination with Ruso's input/filter env technique you can get some good sounds. Also don't forget that you can send different drum parts to the low-pass and high pass filters. I find that tweaking LPF is good for dub / ambient.
Another thing I noticed is that you may not even want the tubes turned on. The whole machine is super punchy without it. To make it blend with other synths, subtle adjustments work wonders. I just think the amount of bass this puts out can drown out other stuff even if its at the same level. |

Excuse my noobness, but would it be safe to assume this Drum technique cannot be acheived to "as good an effect" on the ESX due to its lack of the synth/osscilator paramiters? |

This trick is GOLD.
Thanks, dude. This brought the quality of my emx's drums sound way higher. Now the resulting drum texture is completely another story! |
