George is tough . I noticed that when i asked for how to join the osam.
That´s why i decided not to. I like to listen to the osam entries and read/comment and i´m fine with that. I know that sooner or later either my inspiration or something in life makes me not able to commit 100%. Feels good to be off that hook _________________ Korg R3 - Korg 01W/fd - FL StudIO, Harmor, reFX Vanguard, Toxic 4 (BioHazard), PoiZone, Sytrus, Adventusdf...etc |

Well, I hope I'm not being too strict as to make this undoable, or unenjoyable. But I feel that it defeats the purpose of the 12 songs in 12 months contract to post a song in june and then ask to be checked off for march or april, when the song was not posted in march. I think you could do a OSAM type contract where everyone just promises to write 12 songs and take how long you need to complete it, but what would you end up with after that. The ones who did it quickly would rush thru it and the ones who took 2 years would probalby be ignored toward the end and the whole thing would be very disjointed and not unified. Right now I'm very confident to do my songs, I have at least enough free time to do like 2 songs a month give or take, but my year may not stay this way. My first osam i made all the deadlines but there were months that began and I had no idea what I would do and I hated all my attempts, but with the deadline looming I found something inside me that produced a song, for better or worse. And with the time limit I took risks and chances and posted things I wasn't sure I could pull off, but the encouragement allowed me to branch out and realize that, hey, when the chips are down I can sometimes do my best work, and it may be totally outside the box as a result. So those are my thoughts on being strict. It's not to be pushy or showy. It's to make this amazing OSAM work the way Sharp intended it to be. _________________ George Nelson is 2loose

Just so you know George I am totally with you on this. I also believe that all of us will find ourselves in a corner at least once or twice during this twelve month period. And it will mean putting out something far less than what we are capable of.
However, I look at it like this: once I have an idea out there, good or bad, that idea serves as a promise for something more in the future. While "Leave" was not a huge leap in change from my first version to my final, the ending concept is VERY different because of all the wonderful ideas tossed my way. If I roll out an incomplete song, especially one that is empty and almost blank to the palette, I will be opening myself up to greatness through the feedback and ideas that will come from OSAMers.
In fact, since I already have a big idea rolling for April, I think I might allow May to be delivered quite raw and let OSAMers direct it! NOBODY STEAL MY IDEA DAMMIT!
That is the beauty of this thing...it makes us more professional. In the world of soundtracks, you could be handed a new scene that is 10 minutes long and told you have two days to come up with not only a new theme but have it scored and ready for production! This forces us into a similar arena.
Glad to have you as director this time around George!

It's very difficult for me to relate to Lorenzo's delema.
I can write a song in just a few hours. It will definitely need more work than that, but it'll have drums, bass, keys, guitar, etc, and have some sort of melody idea.
Not bragging here, the reason for saying that, is this really renders me unable to offer any solid solution, or advice.
I cheat the band out of some song learning time now and then, so I'll have time to work on a composition, but if I have a track in my head that I wan't to lay down, even if it's real raw, I just get out of bed an hour early, or stay up an extra hour or so, and just do it.
I should also mention that I only work 20 to 25 hours a week, but the band takes a lot of time, as do my studio commitments.
Lorenzo, I wish you the best with this, I love what you do musically, and would hate to see you drop out.

I've just had a "good" news, my girlfriend has an exam in the early april so she leave for Padova (where she goes to university) and I'll have Saturday morning and evenings (not afternoon though) and the whole Sunday to create something, so since I don't lack the idea for the piece I think I'll be in for sure _________________ http://www.synthaddicted.com |
