Greetings all,
I'm soon going to join the Mac pack. However, I need to know whether there is a "significant" improvement between the new 2.4 Ghz iMac core 2 duo vs the 2.8 Ghz model. I realize that the latter runs a 1066MHz system bus and the 2.4 model at 800. Is this going to present a noticeble difference? Is it worth an extra $300 to go for the 2.8 Ghz iMac?

In all likelihood, I will be integrating mutiple VSTi, software DAW, and outboard hardware - synths etc. Another option might be to just cough up for a new MacPro 8 core.

Thanks for any input.
Cheers,
Eric

Hi!

First of all, if you can, get the 24" version, it has got a much better display, real 24bit colour, not "just" 18 like the smaller version.
I would get more ram with the $$ you could save buying less processor horse power, but when it comes to run heavy VST it should be usefull...

Regards

Thanks, Diego,
I do have the 24" 2.4ghz core 2 duo 2GB ram 320 GB HD coming and yes, I do intend to bump up the ram to 4GB. However, I'm tempted by a 2.8 ghz which is $300 USD more. And beyond that a MacPro 8 core is looming. Unless I hear serious drawbacks to the 2.4 ghz, I think my best strategy is to remain with that till I become "MACified". What do you and others suggest?
Cheers,
Eric
