You Mac connaisseurs: Need your advice

Post by laughing_bear »

You folks who are knowldegeable in Mac systems may be able to help me out here.

I am ordering my MacPro next week and I have a few unsolved questions.

1. SAS; Can someone explain to me what transfer rate advantage a SAS harddrive has to a say standard 3GBit 500GB harddrive? The maximum SAS is 300GB, but can I have a combi like 2 SAS and 2 SATA, whereby I would use the SAS for audio/video puposes. Is SAS a RAID or what is that?

2. I want to have the Mac in another room which is 10-12 meter distance from my desk. I will be driving 3 displays at once. How would you do that?

3. PowerLAN; Anyone around here using powerlan and if so what brand would you suggest?

4. Does anyone here use a BlueRay burner in his Mac under Leopard? Are there any problems or is this fully supported?

Thanks very much, it is a little daunting to switch computer systems in my age. LOL

Hi Bear!

You always come with interesting but strange questions
About PowerLAN, a friend of mine at the university ordered three of them: two were working flawlessly, one did gave him lots of problems, due to electric line issues...but unfortunatly they are known to demage the electrical system, so be careful about that.
I would reccomend to spend a few dollars in good quality Ehternet CAT5 cables and do a LAN between your rooms.

Be aware of blueray, too: they cost a lot...

Can't help you on other questions right know.
