Here's my submission for July, I just need to be done with this one!

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6675948

This has been the most difficult song EVER, for me to complete.
The lyrics, were written by Susan, aka Dreamaiden, circa 2003 or something, and written by her for another song.
We all know my lack of talent with lyrics.
These just came out, and I left 'em cause there's no way I could do better.
So, I know this needs work, but I need to step away from this, and not listen to that voice....!!!!! At least for quite a while, plus I'm just real busy right now.
*Warning* This is a vocal song, and I am the singer. Shocked
All comments appreciated.
Regards,

There is nothing to be ashamed of. The vocals are a very strong point of this tune IMO. You sing well + it all sits well in the mix. The arrangement is cool too but its the singing that makes it a winner for me. I can see huge amount of work being put into this song.

well done

The vocal are very fine man. Your voice is where it should be with this song. Your guitar is always a pleasure. This is excellent! I would love to see these lyrics. Who is doing the vocal harmonies?

I really like it dude! I would like more of this!

Thanks!

I agree with what everyone else has said...the vocals are a strong point. In fact if I had to narrow something down that seemed out of place I would say it was the organ. It might be the sound of it, but I am not sure.

The song is pretty cool all the way around. Good vocals, guitars, pounding beat, mix. I would like to hear the voice a little clearer in fact. Maybe a touch too much of the midrange around the 1-2K mark.

But this is really good.

Do I hear a +1 octave unison voice? Is that a processed sound on the vocals to thicken them?

Jon

Well...I'm shocked that anyone would like the vocals, but pleased never-the-less.
I used my TC Helicon Voiceworks for most of the harmony, (Hi Parts), and the octave up voice as well.
There's a slight delay, and a mild chorus effect also.

Here are the lyrics;

I believe that they build castles in the sky

Please take me there with you

Island Streams oceans away

Please take me there with you

Fly with me fly away into the night

I believe that they build castles in the sky

Please take me there with you

Island streams oceans away

Please take me there with you.

As I mentioned these lyrics are based on what Dreamaiden wrote a very long time ago, for an early composition of mine called Nightflight.
Thanks Susan....again. Wink
I appreciate the nice comments, Thanks guys.
Regards,

Some of your high singing notes actually sound a bit Phil Collins to me, or it's my headphones. The thumpy beat here is like anthem rock, or arena rock, and works well. I couldn't hit notes like that and hold them if my life depended on it, so kudos. You really should record your voice over and over and you will get more comfortable with it, though if you're like me, you will never be completely pleased with your own vocalings. I know I never am. I like this though, and can tell a lot of work went into this. Say, if you ever need help with lyrics, just pm me or something. Lord knows, that's one of my fortes. I have actually written lyrics in my sleep, though they sucked bigtime. But seriously, if you're ever at a spot and can't get the lines you want I would love to step in with some suggestions. Or send me a set of lyrics and I'll show you how to beef them up and make them zing. Strange, but in my story telling class I thought I was learning to write prose and it turns out that much of what I learned there applies directly to songwriting for lyrics. Who knew? REally a nice song Stephen. I hope this boosts up your confidence level, because your talent is already there and quite developed. Just believe in it. (And I'm speaking to myself here as well.) Good job!

Wow - so different than your smooth chill tunes! The chords on this tune rock - almost Kansas sounding - love the strong moving rock tempo.

Whooa - the ending did catch me off guard - I was thinking it was going to come around again.

The lyrics rock - and you CANsing - I think the vocals make this tune - has that haunting characteristic.

Cool

Shocked
I hope you guys aren't just being nice.
It actually blows me away, that you really seem to think the singing is good.
Phil Collins!!!!
Very Happy
Yeah, I like Phil Collins, and to think my voice sound like his....well... Cool
Cool!!!
Kansas!? Some lofty comparisons, but I must admit, I'm totally lovin' 'em.

The song is currently doing really well, chart wise at Soundclick, which also makes me very happy, we'll see how that goes.
I'm very grateful for all the encouragement, thanks to all of you.
Of course...you must realize, that I might do more vocal songs now.
Razz
Regards,

I tried to improve the vocals, and how they "sit" in the mix, and may have screwed it up, but I'm gonna leave this alone for a while, and maybe do the vocal over, perhaps with new lyrics, (georgeinar)
Thanks again everyone.

hehe well this explains why I was thinking about you and Nightflight so much the other day. Smile

This is a great piece Stephen! They aren't just saying it - you can sing Stephen and you have a really good sonic quality in your voice. Definitely you should do sing lots more. Not one note out of place and the vocals perfectly match the music. I like this music and I like your singing.

Yeah !! Good one Stephen. SmileSmile

Susan

What about the lyrics????
Razz

It's very nice to hear from you after so long, and thanks for the kind words.
I listen to your CD now and then, and remember the fun we had with Leather & Lace, Nightflight, Popcorn, etc., it was definitely a fun time.
Please don't be such a stranger Susan, you are missed.

Btw, I listened to the interview with the lads from the UK, pretty cool!
Regards,

LOL, I LOVE what you did with the lyrics. Smile Thank you for the credit but it was not necessary. I'm glad you were able to use them.

We definitely had fun didn't we? And I too hope we get to do it again. My thoughts exactly. I'm sure Popcorn would be up for it too, if we could ever get our email to work even.

Thanks for the kind words Stephen and for remaining my friend even when I disappear. (wait until I move to Norway fiords to herd goats and paint!)

Hugs,
Susan
