Off to Pakefield

Post by chelsea9075 »

Hi all,
Later today I am heading off to Pakefield for a week long keyboard festival. The two topics I hope to be sending you details of are the new version 2.0 operating system for PA2x/ PA800 and the Tyros 3 launch. They are both making their U.K. debuts at Pakefield. As soon as I get any news, You lot will get it also ( that's a promise ). I just hope the O/S upgrade is as good as I have been led to believe. The Tyros 3 should be pretty good, especially if it uses the same sound source as the Motif XS. Yamaha are flying Peter Bartmans from Holland to play it. If there are any Australians reading this post, Tony Fenelon is also flying in to play the Atelier Organs.
More from me as the week unfolds.

Thanks and have a great time. Nice way to spend a holiday.

BTW, I thought the new T3 sound engine was brand new? As I recall the Tyros always leads the WS line with the sound engine. The XS has the T2 sound engine. I know the SA voices were brand new with the T2 and then started appearing in the WS line with the XS.

Should be pretty exciting with the new Audya, T3, OS2.0, and maybe a new Roland TOTL arranger. These are fun times.

Hi all,
Not great news on the Korg front. All the U.K.team are here, John Pacey, Simon Hampshire, Rod Pooley etc. Christ they make some stunning sounds on the keyboards. They are all keeping tight lipped about the o/s upgrade. Apparently it is to do with the launch in Germany. This will be on Friday. The o/s will not be available Friday, as it is not ready yet, all you will get is details about what features it will have. What I have found out is that there will be new sounds, and the ability to load midi-files and see them converted into a score with chord symbols on the screen.
It seems like the Korg U.K. lads are worried about letting any information out before Germany launch the o/s. All around the camp there are leaflets announcing the new Korg version 2.0 software for PA2x/PA800. When you ask the Korg representatives about it, they do not want to talk.
Pretty shoddy if you ask me.
As for the Yamaha Tyros3, I went to the U.K. launch today. It was a really polished professional show. The effects section ( DSP) is completely new therefore it changes all the sounds on the keyboard. ( Even the same sounds as on the T2 ). The organ sounds are all new, the keyboard has slider style drawbars. The piano is the same sampled piano they use on their CLP range of digital pianos. The Super Articulation 2 voices are truly stunning, not just in the sound, but in the way they respond to your playing. ( More of this tomorrow ). The new sounds are even used in the styles. I have to say, a very nice piece of kit. But sadly at £3400 including speakers ( MS02 ). Well out of my price range. Once most of the die-hards have bought theirs, I think they will struggle to sell many without big discounting. At least the Korg upgrade is going to be free.
All for now

HI "chelsea9075"

THANKS!

I do not understand what was all the mystery about the TYROS 3, and the mystery in the link to TYROS 3 site that was upload in the forum, that do not give yet all the picture of the TYROS 3-
http://music-tyros.com

Every one can get the manual of the TYROS 3, in this link-
Just write TYRO 3 in the "search",

http://www.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/ ... v_code=emi

Why it was so unknown and still like that in the tyros 3 site?

Chelsea,

Thanks for the Great Review. Now you have peaked my interest for the OS 2.0. The Midi Notation window is a huge feature!!! Bravo Korg!

Here is some information on the Tyros 3

Yes, it is a fabulous instrument... but I wouldn't worry too much about the stupid RRP, see here: http://www.chamberlainmusic.com/Product ... tID=TYROS3

What type of instrument is a " stupid RRP" ?? I have never heard of that one here in the states.

Hi Stephen,
RRP ( over here in Aust.) refers to the Recommended Retail Price ie the price the company recommends the item be sold for. Then it's up to the dealers to work out what discount they'll give the customer.
I've bought stuff from anywhere between 10% to 45% off RRP.

I'm assuming it means the same thing in the UK.

best wishes

Hi all,
still here at Pakefield, by now you know what the upgrade is, one of the Korg guys told me it would not be released yet as it has bugs in it causing the keyboard to freeze up. Nooooooooooohhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The PA2x's are selling like hotcakes, I believe one dealer sold eleven in one day. It must also be said Yamaha are selling many Tyros 3's on pre-order.
The best prices we have come across are £2,350 for a T3 ( no speakers ). £1,650 for a PA2x. I strongly believe that T3 will come down once the initial rush dies down.
I am a little disappointed I could not give you more information about the new o/s, but what I did give you was right.
What I have done is to take some video of John Pacey playing the PA2x, truly brilliant, and James Sargeant ( Yamaha U.K.demonstrator playing the T3 ). If you can bear with me, I will get these uploaded to Youtube or somewhere so you guys can make your own minds up.
It is ironic that the feature Yamaha are making such a lot of noise about ( the super articulation 2 voices ) and the way you can control them ( you have 2 buttons on the lower left hand block), is the same as the new Korg voices, ( these will also use the two buttons on the lower left hand block on the PA2x/PA800).
I will try to explain how they operate, ( thanks for staying with me ). Depending on which button you have pressed down, and how fast you play the notes, you can get a slide from one note to another for as much as an octave. This works brilliantly on T3 with voices like trumpet, sax and harmonica. If you listen to the harmonica solo by Stevie Wonder on the start of the Dionne Warwick song "That's what friends are for ", you will know exactly what I am trying to get at. The way the harmonica notes slide up from one to each other, this is what T3 does brilliantly, and exactly what Korg have done for the PA2x/PA800.
Hope this simplifies Korg's description of the new o/s.
More to come

Chris,
WOW, Thanks for the info... WE desperately need a lot more details on the OS2, especially if/what is new on the music resources? Are we realling getting a bunch of new sounds AND styles???

I see exactly how T3 does SA2...can we get more detail on the new Korg OS2 Nuance feature? do we really have to use buttons or is it like T3 where it works great without?
Thanks,
Lee
