ESX-1 n00b...

Bought a used ESX-1 off an eBay seller...

Could audition samples and work with effects, but could not get patterns or songs to play no matter what I did...Could not get the Arp to work, either.

Went ahead and re-initialized the unit, and now there are no samples on board?! I thought re-initializing put ALL the factory info (including the factory sample list) back into place?!

Someone help me, please...I've wanted one of these for a long time, and I've read the entire manual and just aren't getting anywhere...

Thanks a million!

~M

I just tried making a new sample, and the unit goes through all the motions, but when I hit the "play/pause" button to audition the new sample, all the drum part lights and the "keyboard" button light up for the length of the sample, but there is no sound. I was able to audition samples before the initialization.

Thanks for any help...

OK, someone on another forum suggested I check the "MIDI Mode".
All I found that resembled that was the "Global/Clock" setting.
This was in fact "Ext" so I set it to "Int".

Patterns, etc (and the Arp) appear to be working, but there are still NO samples onboard, and no sound.

I do get a slight hiss from the machine if I crank the volumes, so my connections are fine.

I think we're making progress...If I hadn't re-initialized, I think I'd be working with the samples that were in the unit at this point...

I don't know what the initialization would not have loaded the factory samples?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi. It sounds like your original problem was the sequencer on the ESX being set to external. You fixed that but deleted the internal factory samples. If you want to restore the factory samples you need to download them from Korg's website http://www.korg.com/service/downloadinfo.asp?DID=1313 onto a smartmedia card and then load them back into the ESX.

LOL! Terrific!

Oh well...I'll get a SmartMedia card and reader tomorrow and run with that...
I thought the re-initialize restored all the factory stuff internally. Embarassed

Thanks!

OK, we finally have sound!!

Apparently for samples to play, "Audio In Thru" has to be selected when sampling them.

I've got the factory d/l file and will transfer them via SM card tomorrow...I think we're in business!!

Thanks again!

Well, I can't find SmartMedia loaclly, so it's off to eBay to find some...
It'll be a week before I can reload the ESX-1 and use it properly. Sad

Oh well, at least it appears to be functioning properly now...
I can have some patience. Smile

Thanks for the help!!!

a 128mb XD card and a smartmedia adapter might be an easier and cheaper alternative to smartmedia
