Hi Sharp!
Yes, it's nice...But it's something like the Muse Receptor, and I alwasy wonder why to pay the same $ for something dedicated for music, when you can buy for nearly the same price a Laptop and use that?
I don't want to start now a thread about one vs another, nor anything like use v.i. live or not...
I'm just curious to know your opinion about that, and talk about the real usage possibilities.

Diego I can understand why someone might desire this over say, a laptop.
This is a more compact unit and likely built to stand the beatings that gigging can bring to it. But I have a deeper problem with these units...
If you are doing pure, no nonsense VST effects, or a few simple softsynths, no problem. But if you are using any ROM based units (ones with samples such as Ivory, Nexus, or the new Omnisphere) there is no way this thing has the space to maintain the samples (1gb flash...you gotta be kidding!). Further, with only 512mb of RAM on no way of truly creating enough room to load some of these VST's simultaneously. And loading multiple instances of smaller programs would still result on choking the 1ghz processor.
I guess that is why in the picture they chose older programs such as the PPG (about 10 years old now) Sampletank (which has a large library, dunno where you would load it), and a free plug.
Receptor is great for some things, but I am with you Diego...get a sturdy laptop and go from there...that is what I do.
If the specs were better, this might be awesome.

I can just see this thing being popular for gigging musicians more so than a laptop.
Laptops are frowned upon here for live use. Bring a laptop you may as well not even play the keys because people are so stupid that they will think it's a sort of Karaoke.
The V-Machine looks like a nice little way around the problem. Just wish there where more details on how much ROM based data you could load into it. 1GB wouldn't be enough. I wonder does the USB port allow you to use a 2.5 inch laptop HDD drive.
Regards.

Well, if the reason to use it just because laptops make you seem like a Karaoke boy...it sounds not so strong
At least you may be using a Receptor, but I still prefer a good hardware rompler, such as a PC3X (http://www.youtube.com/user/FalgorOne listen to his amazing demos!!!) or a full featured M3 over that.
A MacBookPro should be the most reliable and professional solution to play live, but we all know the eternal discussion _________________ Diego http://www.myspace.com/diegoinmusic

Hmmm... well any option that doesn't mean spending 500 Euro on hardware is a bonus, and I'm not short of spare laptops here. I do have a spare Sony Viao (1.4Ghz Celeron + 1GB Ram) I'm not using. I guess a good controller that allows you to keep the laptop closed might be an option.
Have you heard this... http://refx.com/?lang=en&page=products/nexus/summary
I've had my eye on it for a while now and I'm very tempted to buy.
That (RefX Nexus), Pianoteq, and KORG Legacy are what I'm looking at running.

Yes that was one of the programs I mentioned.
It can be huge...if you add on the extra sounds you can be up into 5-10 gbs.
