Big fan of the X50, owned 1 for a year, sold it. Bought another, had it here for a few weeks and lent it to my dad and he's had it for maybe 6 weeks now? I go over this morning after work to visit, he got caught up on the phone with some clients for the better part of 2 hours so I sat upstairs and jammed away.
I clicked the Combi button and brought up A064 piano/widestring, hit the Arp button, played that combi for maybe 20 seconds and any buttons that are usually Red went white, all sound stopped and lastly, Text on the screen went bye bye.
It's not the power cable, it's reading 12v when tested. Shut it down, turned it back on and just a lighted screen with no text and still no buttons turned red, no sound thru any output.
Any ideas?
I called American Musical immediately after trying other wall sockets in other rooms just to troubleshoot. They gave me Korgs #, called Korg and got the # of a local repair service(which is literally 200 yards from my house, awesome) and now just waiting for receipt/invoice to be faxed to me from AMS so I don't have to pay a dime to get her fixed.
My father babies his and anyone else's gear more than I do so I wasn't concerned. When he gave me the M1 in '92, he lectured me nonstop about appreciating it so him being at fault with this issue just doesn't register.
Well there's my Friday, hope you folks had a better one! Atleast I have my other Korgs to come home and fondle, he has nothing and now after this, he told me he doesn't want it back so I get to add the X50 back into my forum signature
*I forgot who I talked with at Korg but awesome service all around, same goes for American Musical. I just hope it's not being worked on for weeks or months _________________ Life is short, play a KORG!

more seriously, never heard such sudden death of x50, mine works fine so far... maybe internal cabling ... let us know |

I had 1 before and have several friends that have them and none have experienced a hiccup, this little set back doesn't change my opinion of the board one bit. I've been a Korg fanatic for 20 years, it would take all my keyboards to die on the same day for me to get upset
Taking it in on Tuesday or Wednesday, I'll definitely keep you in the loop, have a good weekend. _________________ Life is short, play a KORG!

Got the call late last night that it was fixed. I'll inquire as to what was wrong when I pick it up today and post an update. _________________ Life is short, play a KORG!

She's back and working as expected. He said the main board blew, entire thing had to be replaced. First time in 21 years of owning Korgs that I needed to contact a repair shop so I can't complain. It was painless thanks to the warranty Thanks Korg! _________________ Life is short, play a KORG!

i guess its korg x50s major problem.. weak LCD...
I use my x50 for almost 6 months,
sometimes Im getting the same problem... unreadble.. sometimes no display at all (but generating sound)
and sometimes, it works fine again.... I dont understand...
I already tried openning the keyboard and refreshed the LCD (by just touching, detaching and attaching it again)
-- note that everytime Im doin this, it will work fine again......
I guess the problem is a cause of carrying problem..when you take it to a gig, maybe the vibrations are causing this....
- to prove that this is wrong, I hope some user will comment that they are also having problem at home, without carrying it to other place.... |
