I 've had an Esx-1 for a week now. Its changed the way I make music already. I love it. But you guys already know that.
BUT... the tubes on mine don't make any noticeable difference. I've tried various combination's of volume settings but the tubes just add a bit of gain to the volume. They don't produce any warm fuzz in the least.
I think 1 of three things.
A) The tubes do f*ck all by poor design. Why? the whole +12db override available for samples tells me there might be a design mistake. Plus theres NO software to support the thing. I think they cut corners in some areas so they could make it AMAZING in other areas. Honest.
B) They are fried. I bought it second hand. I've heard mention of tubes wearing down.
C) And the third thing is there is no third thing.
What do you think. Do my tubes need replacing?

set the tube gain to 100% wet, if it doesn't distort, not even a bit, itæs the tubes that are dead. I keep my tubes at 25% at all times, turn them off or to more than 30% makes a noticable change in sound, so yours shound respond the same way unless they are broken..
other than that..congrats on your ESX, you'll love it _________________ -ESX/Machiendrum UW/MonoMachine/Acidlab Bassline/Kaossilator/Gakken SX-150

Like I was saying, they have no effect whatsoever. I'm perfectly familiar with what tube distortion should sound like but I get no love.
I'm just wondering if I have some hidden setting messed up.
Is the Master volume pre-tube or post tube? (ie if you turn up the distortion , turning down the master has no effect on the amount of distortion)

You havn't missed anything. Turning the tube gain gives noticeable distortion no matter what any other parameters are and at low volumes. It has to be your tubes |
