Yes Redbeard,
I have tried absolutely everything using SYSEX files downloaded from Korg and third party sources. I set all the settings how they should be, MIDI Ox sends the files and says its successfully sent them, but the X3 is still empty.
I'm totally bamboozled! |

I presume this is the file you downloaded:
http://i.korg.com/uploads/Download/USA_X3_Factory_SysEx_Preload.zip
If so, there's a readme.txt file in it. That file explains how to set up the X3 so that it can receive the preload data. Once that's done, X3_All_DATA.syx "Restores all X3 settings to the factory defualt."
If that doesn't work correctly, the problem may be the quality of whatever MIDI interface you're using. Some inexpensive ones are incapable of sending SysEx messages of any significant length.
Let us know how it goes. _________________ Korg: T3EX, 05R/W | Yamaha: Motif XF6 and XS6, A3000V2, A4000, YS200 | Fender Chroma Polaris | Roland U-220 | Etc. |

Hi there.
Please try these steps, I used MidiOX. Also NOT all MIDI interfaces work with vintage boards, please AVOID the USB to MIDI cables.
This info is on the txt file on the official download link from KORG
"
To load a file, you will need to enable the receipt of system exclusive data on the X3. You may also need to turn off memory Protections. Follow the instructions below.
1. Press GLOBAL.
2. Press the CURSOR UP button 7 times to get to the screen entitled "3D FILTER2"
The second line will show "CTRL:ENA EX:DIS" with the "ENA" flashing.
3. Press the CURSOR RIGHT button to select the "EX:DIS" option. "DIS" should now be flashing.
4. Press the UP/YES button to change "EX:DIS" to "EX:ENA".
5. The X3 memory protection settings are located in the next three pages of the GLOBAL mode. Use the CURSOR UP button to select the PROGRAM, COMBINATION, and SEQUENCE protect pages, and use the VALUE buttons to set each to OFF.
6. Use your MIDI software to send the sysex file to the X3.
The bottom line of the display should read "Processing..." while the data is being sent.
"
It's also recommended to initialize (Power Up holding ENTER and CURSOR DOWN)
Hope this helps!
Happy Holidays to all!

PD/ Sorry had only the older posts page and didn't see the page where you had the solution posted already.

No problem. Either Redbeard25 hasn't seen either of our messages, or doesn't feel the need to acknowledge assistance.
Such a lack of response has become all too common. I don't think I'm going to bother with this forum anymore. I have better things to do with my time than to waste it here. _________________ Korg: T3EX, 05R/W | Yamaha: Motif XF6 and XS6, A3000V2, A4000, YS200 | Fender Chroma Polaris | Roland U-220 | Etc. |

|

Hi Folks,
Your solution worked like a champ for me. After having to replace my X3's battery, I tried reloading the preload data via the 3.5" floppy drive and the original factory diskette. That failed due to a stretched drive belt, so I replaced the belt but it still failed with a "Not Ready" message. Rather than springing for an overpriced Mitsubishi replacement unit, which may or may not have worked, I did a bunch of Internet searching and stumbled upon the procedure you posted here. It worked perfectly and my X3 is back in business!
Your posts were certainly valuable to me. Thanks a ton for your research! |

Back in the day when I had my old Korg X5 I dumped out all the data to sysex files, and I saved them to this day.
I just bought a Korg X5D off of eBay with new battery, everything works great. I also have a Korg X5DR (you'll see why it's relevant in a minute)
I did all that stuff. I went and enabled sysex in the EX changing DIS to ENA.. and program / combination data protect is off... There's no sequence that must be an X3 thing.
And I send the program data from my old X5.. and sometimes it will say Processing and it just says it forever.. A lot of times nothing will happen.
I have confirmed it IS sending the data.
Now i have also sent the sysex file to my X5DR .. same result.. when it says Processing it never stops saying it and when I tap on the up keys the programs have random chars on them and don't make any sounds.
Now you might think the sysex file is bad. I dumped programs from the X5DR to my computer. File size is IDENTICAL to the old one from my X5.
Tried to load that BRAND NEWLY SAVED ONE back to the X5D.. same results.. tried to load it to the X5DR.. same results.
I bought brand new MIDI cables.. same results..
I have a Midiface 2x2 by Miditech now it IS a cheaper interface but I've read people have this interface and have no problem sending/receiving sysex..
The issue is no one ever says what interface they bought that worked or what interface you should get.
I am using SysEx Librarian coz I'm on a Mac.
The only thing I can do at this point is get a new MIDI interface but not sure which one to get and don't want to waste money :/ _________________ --

|

Rather, friend of mine commented on one of my Facebook posts with confusion about why I'm having an issue and listed some things that could cause problems.
ONE OF THOSE THINGS BEING USB HUB.
He said that sometimes USB hub can cause MIDI to drop packets.
So I hooked up the midi interface directly to the computer, played the sysex file to the X5 and Voila!! IT WORKS!!!!
So I wanted to add this.. Try this if it's not working. It is what solved the problem for me and now I have all my patches back!
Sorry for double post but I think it was better since it's a completely different thing, a fix.. and I don't want it to get lost in the other post. _________________ --
