KP3 & Reason...

Post by zimm1222 »

Hey everyone,

So, I've got a KP3 and I want to be able to do a few things with it in reason. I understand that reason is sort of selfish... but this is what I've dealt with (if there's something about this in either manual... I don't have either : (

When I use the touch pad, on every instrument on reason, all I'm controlling is the Sustain slider in the amp envelope, or in an oscillator... When I go to the "Edit Remote Override Mapping" option to program a knob or slider, there are only 3 "CC"'s that are activated by touch of the KP.. (I hope that makes sense) So I'm basically using the KP as a second midi controller... except its crap, doesn't even compare to the midi keyboard i use. That's not even what I'd ideally like to do with the KP, but just wondering if it's as limited as it seems.

Can I use the different programs/synths/controllers that are in the KP to tweak the the music coming out of reason... and if so, how would i do that?

Last thing... In the Thor instrument, in the programmer, there is a "formant filter" that comes out of the amp control (it's located on the right, in the middle) There's an xy grid that can control the sound (to make it sort of a "gurggling" voice). Can the KP control that???

Thanks for reading, if you have any insight, I'm curious to hear.

actually the touchpad can send all sorts of messages not just 3 CC's. you can even use it as an 8 channel mixer. just open the kp3 editor and select the "EXT.CTRL & GLOBAL" tab. under the visual representation of the touchpad there is a list of patterns. choose pattern 4 and now you have 8 virtual faders. click the TRANSMIT button in kp3 editor so that the kp3 is updated with the latest changes and then SHIFT+EXT.CTRL to enable external control cause after every TRANSMIT command its reset. you can customize every control on the kp3 (only those that send MIDI messages) to send whatever message you want: CC codes, note on, etc. you can use a MIDI translator on top of kp3 if you want to get really sneaky but that's another discussion.
