Hi all,

I'm looking toward getting a new laptop setup as I'm fed up with my tempormtental PC and want some mobility anyway.
However - as I'm sure most know, the PC market now apperas very confusing.
There seem to be so many configurations of processor with deliberatly confusing titles like:
Dual Core Vs Core Two Duo - etc.

That is, to further mystify the consumer, intel and co. have moved away from the old straight foward Megahertage and
into confuisng numbers and letters that could mean anything.
They have learned, in their greedy way, that it is better to exclude meaningful processor power terms from the titles of the
latest range of chips (where is the damn legislation to protect the consumer in these cases?) - therefore assisting mightly the unscrupulous IT sales person

- who may bluff the poor, into an unfortunate purchase.

However, one of the good things about the internet is that certian good souls delight in combating such diabolic greed and may have even uploaded a simple table giving the power and processing speed of the latest processors in a clear and comprehensible fashion - and perhaps even what one should expect to pay for said processor.

The system I am looking to establish is this.

Decent Intel Laptop that can run a very healty Reaper.

So, anyone know of any simple tabled or easily comprehended info regarding intel specs and prices on the net?

Uk-ers etc,
I presume DV247 are fairly risk free, they have, after all, been on the go long before the internet advent.
Anybody had any recent dealings with them - over the net?

All the recent Intel dual-core laptop processors are called 'Core 2 Duo'. They are Dual Core processors.

A chart can be found on Wikipedia. All processors are identified by a type number, e.g. P9500.

The newest Core 2 duo processors are the Penryn type. Apart from the clock speed, look for a high Front side bus speed. Larger L2 cache can be useful, too.

As far as the chipset goes (the chips supporting the processor) I believe there are only Intel chipsets available for the Core 2 processors, but I'm not sure. Differences are mostly in memory type and integrated or dedicated GPU.

You could also buy a standard Macbook Pro. Saves you a lot of searching and it's very powerful
