So you tell me: How did you get around the very small parts between the knobs ....? Is your ESX still working. Actually in silver it looks very nice ...

you can take the face plate off, after removing the knobs. not difficult at all.

Tightwad - I'm cheap and I don't like to waste money. Like a tight wad of cash rolled up I don't want to pull out the money and spend it.

now that's good lookin Smile I always thought the ES mk2 was the best looking one, the ESX and EMX are nice too, but the stupid red-ish (that my gf and a few of my friends claim is actually more pink than red) is getting uglier every time I think of it, that's why I dropped $40 on a styleflip :p Had I known this earlier, I would have made a silver one myself

Show us some pics of your style flip

try this stuff I hear this works as good as what I used:

Gil : When you used the oven cleaner on the faceplate, did you have to take care to not get it on the plastic around the display & the clear plastic over the tubes ? I am just wondering if oven cleaner would damage the plastic...
Also, how long did you leave the cleaner on before you wiped it off ?
Thanks-

I haven't done this, but I think the idea is to completely remove the faceplate (first remove all the knobs, then remove the small screws with an allen key). The faceplate pops off and the rest of your unit doesn't have to experience the wrath of an oven cleaner.

Actually when you take the face plate off, the "window" over the tubes and the display can also separate. I think I had to remove a few screws for the tube section, the display is completely independent. You'll see as soon as you remove the screws - it's all straight forward.

I left it on for about 10mins or so, I didn't really count. I simply watched the cleaner as it "bubbled" and I could see the red slowly get pink and then lighter and lighter, then I just took it to the kitchen sink to wash it off.

1) How to remove the knobs ?
2) How to remove the slider ?
3) How to remove the big knob ?

Just by lifting them off ?

And what is the name of the oven cleaner ?

A-ha, I discovered it's the BBcode option must be unchecked

Anyway, I forgot my camera, but I did take a photo of the cleaner, and I will post it tonight. Thanks.

something tells me Easy Off is too powerful. The stuff I used, didn't cause me to cough or anything, EO makes me choke.

The knobs and sliders just lift off - I didn't have to use any force

with any of these products, one should perform the application outside or in a well-ventilated area, and if you're going to be in close proximity to the "over-spray", use a mask!
