Hi everyone.
Rob Sherratt and I have been working on several new "Irish Acts" commercial pianos for the Pa2x. Rob just sent me a couple of demos which he played and recorded earlier today on the MP3 recorder in his Pa2x. If you'd like to hear and comment on the work in progress, here are the links to the demos he sent me ...
More information about the Grand Piano sounds can be found HERE, and some demos will be posted to that thread in the next few days. Pa2x owners should order your EXB-M256 sample RAM expansion cards now, because the Grand-daddy of all Pianos will require 162 Mbytes sample RAM!
Hi James and Rob. I've added this post and the links to my Webpage for the Steinway Piano. Good Demo's and I'm sure the samples will be a great asset to the Forum piano players.....
Hi Rob (it´s my 1st posting here, normally I am in the german Korg-Forum)
yes i´ve listened to the 4 demos.
I like the Irish Grand 2 most.
I think that I will trough out my 128MB expansion and build in the exb 256MB.
Where can I buy the Irish Grand 2 and how much will it cost ?
I allready tested the Steinway on my PA2. Congratulation to the programmers and many thanks to the users, which have spent a lot of time for making this great work.
I hope, that I may load both, the steinway with 71,7MB an the Irish Grand 2 on an expansion-board with 256 MB. (162+72=134MB) I think thats enough.
Is there someone, who is playing the Steinway and the new Irish Grand 2 on one PA2X Pro ?
I think, that the Grand have a greater and better velocity-range.
The Steinway have a little chores in the topper-tones.
Thanks for your message and welcome to Korg Forums, which you probably know is provided free of charge by Sharp, the owner of Irish Acts recording studios.
I did the programming work and demos on the Pa2x for both the University of Iowa Steinway samples and for Sharp's Irish Acts Grand Piano and Rhodes Piano samples. I didn't do any of the recordings themselves. The demos are all played and recorded to MP3 on the same Pa2x (mine).
I can't improve the Steinway sounds because the samples were recorded with too much reverb in a concert hall, and that can not be removed later on. It sounds bad in a mix in my opinion. Also the samples were only suitable to build a 2-layer sound, and so there is a harsh progression from one set of samples to the next. The high notes are too loud and piercing as a result.
The Irish Acts Grand Piano has 4 layers of samples, all recorded in an anechoic chamber (ie no reverb from the room) and the progression from pp to p to mf to f to ff is very smooth I think. Also the Irish Acts Grand Piano is very good in a mix, and played with styles etc. The high notes and low notes are all very nicely balanced.
The price for the Irish Acts Grand piano and the Irish Acts Rhodes piano in a single package with the samples all loading together is likely to be 50 Euros, though the final decision is up to Sharp, not me. I would certainly be very happy paying 50 Euros for it.
You will be able to merge together the Steinway piano and the two Irish Acts pianos in the Megapack, if you follow the instructions I wrote on the other thread about selective OPEN/LOAD of the Steinway sounds from within the USER01.PCG file contained inside the SOUND folder contained inside the Steinway.SET file.
Hi Rob
thank yo for your answer.
I´ve played today a brunch over 6 ours. No more than 30 minutes singing.
When ever it was possible, I took a Mix-Sound auf the Steinway and the new RX2 Piano. The Steinway is not sharp enough, so that a mix with the RX2 brings a lot of clarity. Some Reverb on both and it sounds better than the original Factory-Piano-Sounds.
Now the sustain-tail have a nice singing character.
After I build in the EXB 256 Expansion, I will contact Sharp for the Irish-Piano-Pack.
I wish all Korg-Users a lot of fun with there Korg-Keys.
As an aside, I have just listened the best piano I have ever heard (hey, only my personal view)
it was a Bosendorfer grand piano.
Cheers
Pete
