Hi there,
I just came up with some ideas for a new generation Radias. The photoshop job is crappy & blurry but I think you get my point though.
The main idea is to get a somewhat streamlined and modernized interface with a huge touch-sensitive colour display and a top row of encoders that change their function according to the menus. Also, please note the M3 styled buttons (for quick preset changes etc.), the numeric keys, and the three lighted mod-wheels with some additional function switches on the keyboard unit.
In general, this would be an expanded Radias with (optional) DAW integration / multichannel audio streaming via USB (3.0?) or Firewire.
I am in no way related to Korg and just made this for fun. Maybe it gets a little discussion going coz I think It's time for a new Radias.

I bought the Radias because it is covered in knobs.

Your design looks like a custom touchscreen for hosting VSTis.

I'm perfectly happy with the radias as it is. The only things I could ask for is open sampling or at least a piano sample, more virtual patches and the ability to set FX controls as (mono only) modseq destinations, and a more flexible effects routing system like korg's workstations.

In 5 years, when everything is touch-screen-this, touch-screen-that, you're gonna wish you had an old-fashioned synth with a big array of knobs/faders/etc.

That actually looks really awesome.
In fact, they should make that, but rather than to replace the radias, it would be a complementing piece of equipment, sort of like an addon. It could be anything from a sampler to a synth similar to the kaossilators.

I envy your photoshop skills. That's wicked.

Doesn't anyone else think that would look wicked awesome right next to a radias in its knobby glory?

just supply a vga/dvi/hdmi out for a larger screen for more convenient editing and usb port for mouse or lemur type touchscreen controller or wacom tablet if one wants touch option and please keep all knobs and buttons Smile

I would like one about the size of the m3, with 2*32 triggers and a bunch more knobs.

A touch screen would be nice, again the size of the one on the M3.
This could be great to draw modulation sequences with the fingers (one of my favourite feature on the vsynth-gt).
Plus it could also work as an x/y pad, exactly like the m3.

Also, I would prefer a patch system like on the virus (thought only 4 "tracks" is ok). You would store a combi like now (including all timbres, not a pointer like on the m3) but you could also load and save individual patches/timbres. with an advanced search option.
Also if a drumtrack or any arp or seq is running, loading a different patch on a slot shouldn't stop them all.
And more drum editing in realtime, without entering a drum mode.

Anyway, among my few synths, the radias is globally my favourite, thanks to all these knobs and buttons. And although a better display wouldn't hurt, I still want all these knobs, and even more Smile

I really like all those buttons and knobs on a synth myself but what I don't like on the Radias is that the functions are partially layered and that many knobs are in a somewhat strange position for my taste. You must really watch out that you don't get the wrong knob if you're in a hurry. Also, for many things you need the display anyways.
For live tweaking, I don't need 30 or 40 knobs, I just want the filter parameters and the adsr and the sequencer controls...so say 8 or 10 controls. More would be less to me coz it distracts. This is just my understanding of the Radias as a performance synth, but of course I understand your objections. Thanx for commenting.

i would like something like the Indigo or the K-station... small, tons of knobs and slider, very few menu and 3 oscillators

the great think korg could do imo would be to take R3, put more knobs and also transfer same technology from workstation as drum track, complex arp pattern, sequencer with midi file, sample option...
