I am hoping to use the SV-1 as an occassional lower manual with my Hammond XK-3c.

Ideally I would use the SV-1 with all its great sounds (with no midi out signal transmitted), and when I need a lower manual I would push a button and the SV-1 tone generator shuts off (local off) and the midi out then transmits.

The problem I am having is that it seems to me that the midi out is always transmitting data, and the only options (other than changing the midi channel) are (1) local on/midi out on, or (2) local off/midi out on.

Does anyboy have any ideas? Thanks.

Korg keyboards typically always transmit over their global channel. What about selectively disabling MIDI input on the Hammond or changing the channel you send from on the SV-1 depending on the preset? Are either of those possible with your keyboard?

The only other way I can think of is to get something that will selectively filter MIDI data. This should do the job, though it'd be worth checking that MIDI Solutions products actually get powered by the SV-1 (they should, but not all keyboards adhere to the MIDI spec and provide power over MIDI cables). This would allow you to tap a footswitch to toggle the filtering on and off. You could also rig up their Event Processor to do that in response to program changes, assuming the SV-1 sends them out, plus the Event Processor is more versatile if you ever wanted to do other MIDI transformations for any reason.

I think your over-thinking this.
Just plug the midi IN from the Korg to the XK-3 Lower MIDI socket.

It works as a lower on mine. And you just turn the volume down if you dont want the Korg sounds providing you have the Korg audio outputs connected to amp(s).
