Anyone try it with the line6 midi mobilizer?

At this point is there any advantage to the MIDI Mobilizer vs the Apple camera connection kit???

Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad

yes. if your keyboard doesn't have usb out. MIDI Mobilizer is sturdier and less likely to pull on the ipad's 30-pin connector than if you used a camera connection kit ($29) with an emu 1x1 ($34 on amazon). plus ipad doesn't recognize all usb MIDI connections. it ignored both my vsynth and my emu xboard 25 -- both class-compliant, i believe. and MIDI Mobilizer's other advantage seems to be with iphone/ipod touch, which can't use the camera connector kit. i'm thinking of getting one, unless someone sees something i don't (which is possible, of course).

I use the M-Audio Midisport Uno instead of the MIDI Mobilizer, but the concept is the same. There is another advantage, in my humble opinion. Which is: being able to use the iPad instrument (the iMS20 in this case) in a non-mobile MIDI setup.

For example, I use a M-Audio Midisport 8x8 to connect and manage all my MIDI instruments, and now the iMS20 can be part of that setup.

Just my 2 cents.

Nick

So does the midi mobilizer work with the iMS20?

My iPad comes with this:

"Cannot Use Device"
"The connected USB device is not supported"

A bummer Sad

BTW: Is there any documentaion on how to configure or access MIDI in iMS-20?

Cheers,

Robert

I too would like a little more info.

On the app page in iTunes it says -
"Please see the 'Changes in Version Up' at the online help for details
www.korguser.net/ims20"

I've been to this page and I cant seem to find any info.

If anyone else has managed to find some please post back.

Cheers,

Krog Very Happy

Yes but what are you connecting to the iPAD? The MIDI mobilizer or the camera connection kit?

I guess what I'm not seeing here is anyone that's plugging the cam connection kit directly into their laptop to use the iMS-20 with a DAW. I prefer a standard MIDI cable set myself, but so far any talk of a direct USB connection is non-existent.

Any iPad app I'm using for music - if it's got MIDI - will be used with a DAW (Ableton Live) and not necessarily a direct connection with an external controller or keyboard.

And per my other thread, clock sync is CRITICAL. If the iMS-20 doesn't have it, then the instrument remains pretty much in the realm of noodling toy. Any serious live use with this app (or iElectribe for that matter) demands clock sync. Razz

I cant get the Axiom 25 to work at all.

It works fine without extra power supply.
I've also tested with the E-MU midi1x1 Tab, a MIDI USB converter and it works fine with no additional power supply.

Did you install the latest iOS?

Or, do you have the older version of Axiom 25 (the first one)?

If so, you need an USB hub with a extra power supply.
I used a 7-port Belkin hub and made it work with the older version of Axiom 25 on my iPad.
Otherwise, your device won't connect because of the power problem (drawing too much current from the iPad).

Ok got it, thanks.

Connect the powered hub to the cck, then the axiom 25 to the hub.

Works great, cheers. Smile

Not really a midi controller, but the MicroKORG XL works really well with the iMS20. cutoff and resonance do the right things, plus can switch to four assignable knobs.

MicroKORG XL, Batteries, USB cable and an iPad.

Works great with both an Akai LPK 25 and a Korg nanoKontrol.

Does not work with my no-name USB hub, so I could not try out if it is possible to connect both of the above at the same time.

Also works with my Novation Xio with extra power supply. The iPad even recognizes that the Xio's USB port is both a MIDI and an audio interface - it disables the internal speaker and sends audio via USB to the Xio's Line Out/Headphone jacks!

Cheers,
Michael

Wow. What a complete mess this is. My God.

Mad

It was all so simple. CoreMIDI was provided and there's a PLETHORA of MIDI options that Korg could have offered - all at the same time.

1. MIDI via cam connection kit/camera kit with USB-To-MIDI adaptor
2. MIDI via the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer
3. MIDI via wifi through onboard Apple MIDI networking or PC MIDI networking.
4. Full MIDI implementation including clock sync.

I mean, WTF?

I just saw that Korg have finally updated the iMS-20 online help. The new 'Changes in Version Up' section is now available, including a complete MIDI Control Chart.

Edit: There is also a new v1.1 Demonstration Movie in the Video Tutorials section, showing that it is possible to connect a nanoKey, nanoPad and nanoKontrol at the same time using a USB hub.
