|
|
Hi,
I have an iPad (ios 4.2) with IMS-20, a Macbook (Snow Leopard) with Ableton Live 8.2, an Apple Camera Connection Kit, a USB-Audiobox and an original Micrkorg.
Now: I want to send midi from Ableton to the IMS-20 on the iPad. But I am not succeeding if i directly connect the iPad and Macbook through USB.
Anyone some thoughts on this? Other setups, other apparel to make it work?
Thx! |

You could try to send MIDI from your MacBook to the MicroKorg via USB, and then use a MIDI interface like m-audio's USB Uno to connect the MicroKorg's MIDI Through to your iPad. |

Thanks. It looks like that might work. My external usb-soundcard has a midi-out as well, so that might even be worth the try.
A bit stupid though, that i have to buy another thing ( a usb-to-midi cable) to get things working properly. Apple states that the apple camera connection kit should be enough.
Another question: is it possible to send midi notes to the ipad? i read a lot about people who used their midi controllers to control the knobs in ims20, but can i trigger (multiple) clips in ableton and send them to the synth and individual drumpads in ims?
Thx again! |

Yes, you can also send MIDI notes to the iMS-20.
The synth responds to MIDI channel 1, the drum parts respond to channels 2 to 7. So once you set up your clips in Ableton to send on the correct MIDI channels, you can use the iMS-20 just like a multi-timbral hardware synth. |
