Korg,
Please check this out:

This sounds like a real guitar and its the real-guitar VST.
Real Strat is also amazing:

If Kronos can do this, I will buy it Kronos is getting closer to VST/AU, but I think VST/AU is still superior. _________________ "Korg simply makes the best sounding synths. Thank you Katoh and the rest!" |

Wow, the last one was amazing.
Kronos has the STR - 1 Plucked String engine, it's physical modelled strings. And has the 16 FX section. With those things togheter, I think you can emulate a pretty nice guitar, but all those VST's use GB of samples and are made to be used with fast and powerful PC's CPUs.
I've knever tried STR- 1, but after hearing a lot of demos, I think you can get pretty close. But, if you want realism, nothing beats the real thing. Period _________________ Gear: Korg M50, Korg Monotron, Kurzweil KP-1, Boss FS-5U. |

The beginning solo work was SICK! Some of the most authentic Distorted guitar work I've heard. The rhythm stuff still sounds like a keyboard, but the lead stuff was very impressive. That's good enough to buy instead of rolling my own. _________________ Korg: KRONOS 73, M50-61, 01W/r

Bear in mind that it's DI recorded guitar. The distortion in that example is courtesy of (IIRC) ReValver mk III. |

I'm confused then. It Appeared he was playing it with the keyboard? _________________ Korg: KRONOS 73, M50-61, 01W/r

Yep, he's playing Evolution Electric Guitar (direct recorded samples) through the VST ampsim there, over his MIDI keyboard.
Rest assured, the samples are absolutely topnotch. They are just sampled direct, to give you greater flexibility in getting the guitar tone YOU want. It's none of those slimey sampled distortions (which don't flow as well and don't lend themselves to legato propertly, and don't stack as they should in chords...) |

This is an interesting demo of some of the capabilities of STR-1. A little short of the midway point he shows a very cool use of feedback. Up until the last few years, I felt one of the few things hardware synths, Korg and Yamaha, did better than software was electric guitar leads, especially when set up with decent legato and FXs. That Evolution Electric is excellent.
