Korg Friends, your general Dr. has no idea what has been perfected, this treatment is only 9 yrs. old and has made a huge difference for me. I was weeks in bed, couldn't associate 90 degrees which anyone takes for granted. Fell over whenever I got out of bed in the am. The treatment kills the nerves causing the imbalance. As i mentioned, i have had this for almost 25 yrs. A whole renewed life for me, it would have gotten progressively worse, confined to a wheelchair within 5 yrs. I can now run a small marathon at 55. Oh yes, I am very proud of my set-up, Chordial has a photo somewhere of my studio (I hope he can find the photo). All the best KORG forum members. GNB

if you go back a year or so, Cordial had some photos of my studio, it's the same other than adding an M3 you are welcome to see my setup. I have a large lakefront home on Lake Superior at Thunder Bay, Ontario, my studio has a view of the lake and is my passion while semi-retired. GNB
Will give a photo of the lake if i can figure out how to download it.

Sorry this is now the inner ear disorders section. If you don't have an inner ear disorder you can't join our club!

I have been partly and at times nearly completely deaf in my left ear for about 8 months now....

For me the biggest problem is psychological. It completely kills my motivation when I realise I could be enjoying the music more than I am. Or when trying to mix something only to swap headphones over (I find mixing on monitors too disorientating now) and find the other side a mess.

Any luck with finding out the cause? I know what you mean when you talk about it killing your motivation. One if the effects of my condition is a severe hyper sensitivity to sound in one ear. So not only does any reasonably loud noise hurt like hell but it also makes me even more dizzy. This means no loud music. Can't play my guitar. Can't go to concerts, cinema, restaurants. Going any where basically is s big problem for me. Really really looking forward to getting better!

Great to see everyone's pics and read your stories. I'm Tim, a 32yr old lad from Derby/Notts. Bit of a short arse at 5'2". ;P I have Goldenhar's Syndrome.

Been playing with piano/keyboards since aged 7. Can't read a note of music, tried many times but my brain is seemingly hell bent on 'playing by ear' as it were and I'm used to working on hearing sound tones rather than reading notation off a page.

Currently living with my parents at the moment as I'm off work long term battling with fibromyalgia and constant headaches, which at the age of 32 is not cool.

All aboard the inner ear disorder train. Hi Pepper. Believe it or not I have the same as you! Dehiscence overlying the superior semi-circular canal. Smile (or should that be Sad ).

Mine was found almost by accident about 10 years ago when I was having CT and MRI scans done of the middle-ear and jaw joint (for a different issue) as, like you, I have a lot of problems with my hearing, noise sensitivity, balance, fatigue, visual probs and brainfog and whatnot. Was refreshing to partly find out after all those years why I've always made myself dizzy simply by singing, or why I can't for the life of me walk in a straight line in the dark! It's never been treated or operated on, as it was just one of several problems. My physiology is slightly different to most as I was born with a bit of a rare syndrome and have an underdeveloped jaw on that side. I was actually born conductively deaf on that side (the bones in the middle ear were naturally fused). At the time I didn't think the dehiscence was the root of my problem as my hearing sensitivity is actually in the other, functioning ear! Which just didn't make sense whatsoever. I think my own problem is TMJ and/or neck vertebral related. ...Although after googling and reading more about dehiscence tonight, I think there may be some cross-over symptoms. Seems dehiscence is unusually rare, I was unaware there was treatment for it.

I have totally lost my sense of balance and need meds daily. it's total hell but I live one day at a time, I have no concept of 90 degrees, live on medication forever, luckily i have a good spirit.. not in a wheelchair yet. GNB
I truely enjoy the Forum, I love music, it gets me thru the crappy days.

Yes we are aware that this is a Korg forum. Especially seeing as 2 of the people discussing their inner ear problems are moderators of this forum.

But as Cello already pointed out this is an off topic section so anything goes and you must appreciate that after being ill for so long it's nice to talk to someone who has similar symptoms.

Both myself and X-Trade have already advised you how to get your pictures on to the forum.

OK enough said, I understand. Those who do have problems can contact me direct gnbutt@tbaytel.net. I never meant this to be a medical forum and apologize if I went beyond the parameters of this excellent forum for dialogue internationally. GNB

Hi Tim,

I can't imagine what you've had to go through. 19 operations? You're the first person I've met (or not) who also has SCD. Yes you're right it is pretty rare and there may not have even been a cure for it when you were first diagnosed as it was only first discovered in 1998. Now they can operate but they only do so if the symptoms are pretty bad as there can be complications in the surgery so it's quite risky. That said, about 75% of people who have had the surgery have reported making a full recovery and that is stats from about 5 years ago. So I'm sure the chances are even better now. Thye symptoms of TMJ are really similar to SCD because that's initially what I first though I had after goolgling it. SCD was first mentioned to me by my neurologist but he was not qualified to diagnose it so sent me to London. Because it is so rare there aren't many doctors who know how to diagnose it so the first diagnosis I had was a water infection (can you believe it?). Then I had 2 ENT specialists tell me that I have migraine associated vertigo. This is because I also suffer from daily chronic headaches so it was easy for them to say that this is what is causing my dizzyness. It was only because I'm really stubborn that I got them to run more tests and get someone else to look at my CT scans that they said "Yes you're right, you do have it!".
One of the side effects of SCD is chronic headaches so I am keeping my fingers crossed that my headaches are because of this and that they can be cured by the surgery. You must know what it's like to get a headache every day so that thought of being able to get some relief is almost too much to hope for.

gnb - if it's any use to you, I'll pm you with my email address and I'll host the images on my server. You then just link to my server using the [img] tag when you write a post.

Seems that we're all ear-wrecks! Sorry you have such bad days - good that music is a help for you Smile

Sorry to hear about yours too X-trade - Pp and I thought we might be a club of two initially, but our club is bursting at the seams now! Laughing

We all have to cope in our own way - and yes, Pp it's good to chat about it.

Music, using Korgs (of course! Woohoo - back on topic Laughing ) will take care of our souls in the meantime...
