Kronos pianos same as SV-1?

Post by keyboard komuso »

Been checking out the demos on the new Korg Kronos and I have to say the pianos are pretty damn impressive! Personally I always thought pianos were Korgs weak point, but no longer. Just wondering if the piano on the Kronos is entirely new or the same raw samples used in the SV-1. I know the E.P's are from the SV-1. I prefer a darker classical sounding piano which I found in SV's Soundpack 2. Now Kronos comes along! It would be a bummer to know that less than a year after getting my SV-1, the same company releases an even better piano! Such is the way of technology I suppose...

The acoustic and electric pianos in Kronos are both completely different than those in the SV-1. The upcoming Pa3X arranger, on the other hand, does use the acoustic/electric piano sounds from the SV-1.

In Kronos, the only sonic element from the SV-1 is the vintage effects that are built into the EP-1 electric piano engine.

Hope this helps.

Hi Rich-

I love the SV-1 especially the vintage electric keys. The only way I could love it more was if it had the new Kronos piano sounds plus an slightly updated keyboard action. Can you provide any kind of hope to someone like me that this may occur in the not so distant future? An SV-2 perhaps?

Some kind of idea of where these killer piano sounds may end up in the SV world. Thanks, Roger

Hi Roger,

Glad you like the sounds. As a rule, we can't give "advance notice" of upcoming products. We do always want to hear suggestions, though, so thanks for your input.

Best regards,

@musicman2011: So the SV1 is already death? I don't hope so! It would be a shame if Korg isn't releasing any updates anymore.

Mine SV1 is just 1 and a 1/2 year old..

I hope they do release the SV-2!! After owning an SV-1 for about a year I sold it. Just too many little issues. I think Korg released this beasty prematurely before working out the kinks. I'd be willing to give a revised version a go though!

OH NO didn't mean to imply that.. the SV1 is still viable, but the rumour mill is grinding out that a new SV-2 would include Kronos technology..

Well, ok,so if it is true that Korg is going to release a SV2, don't you think it is just strange that Korg hasn 't release any update since September 2010 for the SV1?

Anyhow I feal concerned about the way Korg is informing there customers about releasing updates. It has been 7 months since the release of a new soundpack and/or a new OS.

Korg, can you PLEASE give us an upate on this beautifull music instrument?

Thank you!

We still need a new OS to let us have true control over our overdrive with the knob. Korg can we get any kind of a response? Just to let you know I am pretty sure silence upsets us just as much as saying there won't be an update. Just let us know if something is in the works.

Sadly the SV-1 was my keyboard of choice until I started reading this forum. Now... I'm not sure I can put out this much $$ for an instrument that so many have issues with. And if the company doesn't support and update it, then the resale value is going drop quickly too. :(

I'm very sad about this, no other instrument out there seems to hit this retro, grungy, super cool, all inclusive area of sounds. :(

Sadly to read that the Korg Kronos will have the same keybed as the SV1, RH3. It's very bad done, I have different friends with the same problems, no matter in which keyboard (SV1, SP250, M50 88,etc...).

I was planning to buy the SV1, so I went to try it...
I don't want to speak about the sounds, but I would like to tell you how dissapointed I was, when I noticed that the space/gap between the keys it was random...Plus the action it's not accurate for playing organ sounds, or clavinet.

Also I would like to tell you something. here in Argentina, KORG is a very popular brand, but as nowadays, the official dealer (Import Music) don't import the KORG M3 (and the will not do it anymore).....so, by now people can only buy the M50 (1500 USD 61 keys), or wait for a Korg Kronos, wich will cost U$D 3710 61keys...
Due to this situation, many users are moving to other brands, most of all to Clavia Nord Electro, or Nord Stage.

I miss the old korg products, well done, good build, made in japan, without any surprises right out of the box...
Current Gear: Nord Stage 2 sw 73 - Clavinet D6 - Kurzweil Artis
Past Gear: Korg Krome 61 -Hammond SK1 73 - Korg M3 61 Expanded Radias - Korg M50 73 - Korg N5EX - Korg N1R - Korg TR 76 - Korg TR 88

That is exactly what I'm looking for. The Kronos has too much stuff I'll never use (synths/sample/recording/karma/drum tracks)...extra $1k...that said, it's not here today...so, I'll likely buy the Kronos.

It's funny that anyone mentions or cares about companies "updating" keyboards...truly missing the point of embedded systems, IMO. Particularly a stage piano...? That should be no deterrent to purchase.
