iMS-20 will be one of my first purchases for it, along with the Synthstation app. I'm pretty sure I'll have more than 9 synth engines on it in less than a week. I'll probably have a bunch of multitrack DAW apps for it too.

That and the Fruity Loops Mobile. I'm even thinking to get the PC version of FL just for the project sharing. That alone will provide many stuffs. From Matrixsynth specification: 40 free instruments, 50 available in the in-app shop.

Kevin, for someone with a B.Sc degree and who, ...um...wrote a book about Martians, certainly you of all people shouldn't be asking that question?

Why is a synthesizer not a musical instrument?

Am I allowed to ask this question despite a ph.d. / Dr. in Europe ???

P.S. Has Kevin written a book about people like Edward Teller?

but I had too high expectations of kronos before it arrived
hoped for a workstation+kaosspad+openlabs maschine with reaktor inside Embarassed

So what exactly are your missing / is your weak spot in this workstation?

My weak spot so far is the CX3: the preview demo sounds are a real disppointment to my ears, after hearing the latest Nord B3 Clones or software like NIb4 etc. So I'm heavily missing the smooth and fat B3 "real deal sound", including it's roaring Leslie overdrive. As far as I heard examples so far,
- quite artificial sounding high range and full drawbar sounds
- mid-quality Leslie (neither bad nor really good): not convincing
- overdrive: sounding extremely digital, harsh and unnatural

Perhaps the presets can be cured to a certain degree (using other than the bulit in overdrive, for example, etc), but I have significant doubts concerning the quality of this engine. It seems useable to me, but not much more...

The VAs, in contrast, sound amazingly good to me.

Also - the way you repatch on the OASYs/Kronos is different to the iPad. As said on the Kronos you touch the source and destination points and the patch is made for you. In the iPad you simply hold and drag

I actually prefer the 'touch source then destination' method of patching. If it's doable while playing the keys as well, I'll be a happy camper.

I'm eagerly waiting for this to ship:

Unfortunately, it looks to be delayed until October.

I expect it to be an excellent iPad 2 stand, at least.

Let's see here, a fast, dual-core CPU with big touch screen that can run apps that I can download or that I'm free to write however I want, attached to a 49 key with music I/O. That sounds like a true open architecture synthesis workstation, at least open enough to me.

iMS-20 will be one of my first purchases for it, along with the Synthstation app. I'm pretty sure I'll have more than 9 synth engines on it in less than a week. I'll probably have a bunch of multitrack DAW apps for it too.

Yep, it looks very interesting... With iPad evolutions, I can easily bet than 3, 4 or 5 years from now, the Kronos 2 could run entirely from the iPad 5, 6 or 7 with even more power than the current Kronos, more audio tracks, more synth, bigger sounds, direct access to the App Store with in-App purchases for new sounds, arps, GEs, etc...

Just unplug your iPad from your keyboard dock, and plug it to your Turntable dock and use it as a DJ now... or to a Drumpad dock and it's a drum machine... or just use it in the plane to prepare sounds or sequences...

And Apple clearly announced the iPad 2 as a great musical device, with GarageBand... it's still a "toy" for now, but it could be very interesting in few months. 8 Audio Tracks Sequencer for $4.99, that's a pretty damn good deal...

It won't replace the Kronos for now, but it will still be a very interesting product to keep an eye on.

Phil

Oops, forgot the "smiley" about this.

I meant that one shouldn't even have to ask the question because naturally a synthesizer is a musical instrument. Smile

Kevin wrote a book about Mars (it was in some other thread)

iKarma would be a product that would probably be at the top of my purchase list, if it's ever created. Being able to Karmafy on an iPad would be very cool.

Ipad2 has velocity sensitive keyboard and Apples "Garageband" does a few emulations fo different instruments, also some synths.

Velocity sensitivity is measured by the accelerometer built into the iPad.
