Like you I have avidly watched every demo I could find. I remember a blurb about the smaple but not much more. Anyone have some info on it? Is it similar to the micro sampler or way better? Can I mount my mic in it, what type of mic any recommendations etc. |

Well, I do a VERY quick demo of the sampler in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIJEmxgCFng
...at about 22 minutes in. It's really not very much, but you can at least see some sample editing on the display.
In short, it's much more powerful than the microSAMPLER, but it's also a very different approach. The microSAMPLER is purely focused on sampling, and to that end, it has cool and immediate features like battery power, a top-panel XLR jack, Auto-Next mode, Keyboard mode, and so on.
Kronos, on the other hand, can go much, much deeper. It's better suited to loading larger sample collections, editing and recording longer samples. It has features like velocity-switching, crossfade looping, and more editing capabilities that make it much more comprehensive. It's also capable of so much more than sampling, though, so there aren't as many dedicated controls for the sampling functions.
I hope this makes sense. The sampler in Kronos is similar to that of the M3, so you can also check out this video to learn a bit more about the sampling functionality in our workstations:

No sweat.
If you want to make keyboard-playable samples of your Wavedrum, then yes.
If you want to record it as part of a song, Kronos also records 16 hard disk audio tracks in SEQ mode.

Just curious how many people actually use a vocoder?

Yes, Kronos can vocode. The mic input is a 1/4" jack on the back panel. _________________ Richard Formidoni |

I may never use it myself but then again I know I have a couple kids that would love it. For a serious musician I have no idea how much it gets used but it sure is nice to have if you want it. I think it adds to the value of the instrument. Once again, thanks guys for the help! Bertotti |

too many
I already recommended vocoders to be outlawed.

With life sentences for anybody using it for munchkin, robot or hal-9000 or "devil" voices.
Death penalty for anybody using a German voice as a modulator
And finally: anybody saying "this is the vocoder" in a mic, should be flogged.
Only me should have a vocoder. Or many of them.
Ok, ok: Wendy carlos and S. Patel should be allowed to keep one each. But let's stop there.
Mass vocoding destroys civilizations.
Look at this guy, vocoding into a iPhone: don't you feel a sense of Pompei?

Thanks. I was just wondering if we took a survey--how many people ever use vocoding live? _________________ M3, Triton Classic, Radias, Motif XS, Alesis Ion |

the vocoder is an interesting tool, specially for pads (but I don't like talking in it, just talking nonsense to modulate the sound) _________________ --GEAR--AKAI Miniak, KORG Nanokontrol, nanoPad 2, KP3

Ozy -
You've just outlawed the ONLY COOL THINGS a vocoder can do! You might as well say no Cylon lines too, or no remakes of "Let's Groove Tonight" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XOY7lsBVpo )or "Freak-a-zoid" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8OL7I3hpYA ).
You should be ashamed of yourself!
Actually I can't wait for my 61-note Kronos - the first thing I am going to do is grab my crappy dynamic mic, plug it in, and vocode track after track of "By Your Command" |
