|
|
I was wondering, with the analog models, do they have any triggering issues in mono mode when playing fast? I have had some keyboards that do not handle fast playing well when notes are triggered and you play really fast.
Is the Oasys quick in mono mode? Does it retrigger quickly? _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

I'll give you a perspective... if Joran Rudess can play the Kronos without dropping notes then the answer is "yes". |

I know - easy answer but the Kurzweil PC3 has a problem with retriggering quickly. It has something to do with the way the envelopes work. One of my old Roland keyboards - you could smear across the keyboard and have it come out about a second later. Very cool effect! _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

Yup, easy answer, but true. In all the time I worked on Oasys and Kronos I never had a problem with notes not retriggering, and I can play very fast.
If you were to ever experience a "missed" envelope trigger on the Kronos I would immediately suspect that the sound is (deliberately) programmed for single triggering and not a fault in the keyboard or the design. Really, I don't think this would be a worry in the least. |

Thanks Peter. I assume that you saw that I am speaking specifically of mono mode. If so, that's great to hear!
Of the keyboards I own, only the VL1 and my analogs are really, really quick at responding and triggering. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

Interesting, I never had any trouble with monophonic mode on PC3. Can retrigger very fast, in legato (single trigger) on non-legato (retrigger) mode. Not sure about what's the issue here.

If youre reference to setting the envelope retrigger to single or multi when playing legato, even my triton can do this just fine, i assume the kronos can do it 1000x better! _________________

Hard for me to explain it correctly but it has been mentioned before in the PC3 forum. Something to do with mono and triggering and possibly portamento too.
I took a look back and they say it was addressed in an update, but I still feel that the lead sounds that I created are not as "fluid" and responsive as some of my other synthesizers. It could be the type of algorithm I am using, but it goes back to my point of just dialing up an analog emulation and being able to interact with it like I am used to. Yes, I remember that discussion. Still, I can't feel anything "slow". If you can't explain it better, then I must say that I find nothing wrong with the current behavior, as I can do monophonic retriggers as fast as my key repetition technique allows me, without any glitches or whatever. Everything is behaving pretty much as I'd expect it, except one thing, but I filed that as a bug report - when retriggering back to a note you already hold, the velocity of the retriggered note will be equal to note OFF value of the previously triggered note. Any other synth I've tried, it just uses note ON value.
Not a big deal though, because 99% of leads I use don't use velocity. |

An example of a manufacturer that got it right is Nord. That synth engine is fluid and quick and leads can be played very easily. Anyway I hope thus Kronos will be just as good. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

I did play a Nord Lead 2x, and while it's a great board, I can't say I noticed ANY difference in my lead playing between NL2x and PC3K8... |
