We have all heard the pretty sounds, pianos, strings, rhodes...

But can the synths get nasty? Like modern pop, techno music?

Not just cheap thin sounding pcm samples, but we have synth engines, I hope they are really big sounding, compared to other va's

I don't think you should have to much trouble getting big sounds since you can layer up to sixteen of any combination of synth engines you want, and detune them for that really fat sound, record that to the sequencer as an audio track, then start all over again, the possibilities are endless.

Listen to the sound demos of the AL-1 engine, on the oasys product page, and you'll have a rough idea. One of demos is of a distorted sound with the filter opening, tb303 style.

There's also a nice MS-20EX demo along with the new kronos demos. The demo is called "Program I-A077 Darkside X-Bass".
That is quite a nasty and agressive bass sound

Both AL-1 and MS-20Ex are VAs well able to produce the "nasty" sounds you are after.

As I read the OP, I was about to recommend this same demo. Smile
