Not possible, Atom used in Kronos supports up to 4 GB, but not more.
GregC wrote: | What about a bigger/faster SSD, etc, etc, etc. |
That's probably gonna be possible. Ask McHale when he gets his Kronos. |
thats a good report
on 1 hand the Internet speculation will stop.
On the other hand, they will increase exponentially

Where did they say that ? Just curious as it goes against KORG's normal procedure to say something like that.

Sharp. |
It was said by one of the Korg reps on this forum. If a board was not designed for user upgrades, then why would it be against policy to say so? |

You know I'm going to do it. I know I'm going to do it. But Korg doesn't know I'm going to do it! Wait, they do? I'm just trying to figure out what's the meaning of the changed specs.
At first, it seemed specs had changed for the worse with free ram cut almost into half (273mb into 148mb).
Both Dan and Rich hinted that the change is due to more samples that were added to the Kronos recently.
These samples are occupying 120mb of ram (the difference between 273 and 148).
Now, if the streaming 4.7GB grand piano needs about 216mb of ram, than maybe this new sample addition should be, roughly, about 2.5GB on the ssd if it occupies 120mb on the ram.
What could it be?
Or maybe the whole story is just bs, and they calculated it all wrong to begin with - and now they know there are only 148mb of ram left, and the rest os stories?
Maybe some detailes could help stop speculations... |

We can just wait until they release it and we can see what the specs are. _________________ Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha). |

Would you be kind enough as to remind me wether you pre-ordered a Kronos, and if you did - than based on what specs?
Or are you waiting to find out only after it arrives at your doorstep..? |

It's just that on this forum, i got to see the sentence "buy the Kronos for what it is. Not for what it might or might not be in the future" thrown from time to time as a sort of philosophy.
Now, i tend to agree with this line of thinking. I'm buying the Kronos for what it is. But it seems that we don't really, fully know what it is. And i think we'd better. |

Then don't pre-order until you get the final release specs - simple. I just don't see the issue. Sounds like pre-ordering is not for you if you want all the specs finalized before you order. I pre-ordered while NAMM was still going on. Sweetwater didn't even have pricing then, let alone finalized specs. _________________ Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha). |

If the mobo in the Kronos doesn't have additional empty slots, then it's a matter of pulling the current RAM out and replacing it with higher capacity modules. Either way, once the Kronos is opened, it's a two minute upgrade. Haven't you upgraded RAM in a PC? It's the same thing. |
I wasn't talking about off-the-shelf RAM but rather assuming it would be soldered onto the board to save the cost of sockets. But if the OASYS has sockets, then I guess that's a good reason to think the Kronos will as well. So I hope you're right and it's just a matter of replacing DIMMs. (Why doesn't Korg just say so then?) |
Soldering the sample RAM chips to the board is the expensive route. I have no doubt Korg used off the shelf removeable memory. The industry has been doing it this way for longer than some of us have been on this planet. |

Not to totally barge in here, but I pre-ordered a musical instrument, not a spec sheet. An Oasys with good pianos that I can actually carry with one hand? Done deal. The remaining specs are practically meaningless after that. I hope that by the time they release it, there's 0MB of RAM left because of all the awesomeness that they've pre-loaded for our playing pleasure. _________________ Kronos 61, Kronos2-88, Hammond B3, Baldwin SD-10 |

All marketing material for nearly any product states "specifications subject to change", especially if it is released before the product goes into production.
I consider this to be a minor spec change. If this change is important to you, I am positive you could cancel your pre-order (if you have one). |
