This is where things get interesting:
In Combi and SEQ Modes, it looks really small. Both the fonts and icons looked a lot smaller. Luckily I have good vision so I didn't have any issues (besides the fact that I have to get used to that, given how freakin' HUGE the OASYS screen is). But for other people, I totally see why some have been complaining about it. They are right to an extent. It IS small and it will be hard for some people to see it. But that's only in Combi and SEQ Mode.Sina |
Phew!! Thats good to know...So glad only the Seq and Combi mode is hard to see. I was worried the Program fonts would be affected also..  |

I wonder how much of that is the OS booting and how much is the loading of the attack portions of 12GB of samples. If you don't load all the samples does the boot time get reduced?

You don't need more RAM, guys. The SSD is there for a reason and you can import your own samples and have KRONOS automatically load them every time you turn it on.

AFAWK For using your samples, you´ll need RAM to load the samples in, right?
They are NOT streamed, but loaded in RAM.
That´s what the KSC Autoload feature does: Load the samples (in RAM) every time you power the keyb on.

I think KRONOS is gonna be a similar situation. You can't stream user samples from the SSD as it stands right now. But I can pretty much guarantee that user sample streaming form the SSD is gonna happen in the next couple updates, if not the next update. |
1. He didn't say it wasn't possible. He said there wasn't an easy access door so it'd take removing a bunch of screws. Big deal. You flip it upside down, remove the bottom, there's your access. They didn't seal it shut and you won't have to remove the top to get in. I've never come across a Korg synth yet that wasn't easy to service... In fact, I'll open my Kronos up AS SOON AS I UNBOX IT and take pictures of the insides so we can debate this stuff intelligently.
2. Don't hold your breath for streaming user samples. While it's possible, Korg isn't notorious for adding that kind of stuff. We begged since the beginning for auto-loading of user samples at bootup on the M3 and that request went ignored (like many others including bug fixes). If it's not there now, don't expect it to be there later.

I agree with McHale, though I've just about ruled out RAM expansion. No expansion bays (Kronos is much more of a "Production" instrument than the OASYS was IMO) which are usually there even if the MI co even THINKS there MIGHT be an expansion. No hints to it in the manual either.
The User Streaming depends on Korg's stance on the matter. They can market libraries exclusively with the technology and have an upper hand vs. people rolling their own. Add limited sample space and it's a compelling argument to buy Korg's libraries. If the User streaming IS on the table (Which would be EPICALLY AWESOME BTW), it's going to come down to one thing I think: How easy it is to muck it up. If it's all automatic and requires no real user intervention, I think there's a good chance we could get it. If it requires the user to have a CLUE, forget it! Won't be worth the PR risk. It only takes a FEW idiots to fill up the internet with complaints overnight while tenfold more happy customers are obliviously PLAYING their Kronos instead while not feeling the NEED to post about how great it is. Therefore skewing the perceived quality of the upgrade and causing problems.
