I attempted to load data from an external USB HD formatted by my Roland Fantom G using Kronos. The Roland formatted drive froze Kronos. The only solution was to turn off Kronos and reboot. I repeated this several times and got the same results. Only 1 time was I able to see the contents on the Roland drive and load .wav files.

What did you expect?
Why not just format the drive from Kronos and move the files over to it and load as you wish..

I expected to receive a message indicating the drive needs to be re-formatted in order work with Kronos. I didn't expect Kronos would still be frozen after I turned off the USB drive and unplugged the USB cable.

3 of the 4 times I tried the drive, it froze Kronos and there was no way to reformat that drive.

I just turned off the HD, unplugged it from USB port and rebooted Kronos. Everything is back to normal.

Perhaps Roland is doing something proprietary?

I would be more curious so see how Kronos played with a drive formatted by Windows, Mac or Linux/Unix. THAT I would expect to work. From another MI comp? Not so much.

Depending on what your needs are, it appears dumping your files to a temp store and then re-formatting the drive so that it's compatible with the Kronos is the only option to move forward.

If it's anything like what the OASYS needs (and it may not be so maybe check the manual) but a USB drive must be FAT32 formatted - I had to download a shareware app to do it properly.

If you don't format it correctly, it will only recognise the first 4Gb of the hard disk capacity and ignore the rest - even if it's a 500Gb drive! Once formatted though, all capacity is recognised.

Enjoy your Kronos!

Couldn't you have formatted the usb right from the Oasys disk mode?

Tried that first time but stayed at only 4Gb being recognised on a 250Gb disk

Thanks for the tips Sina Smile

The shareware app did it in about 60 seconds - maybe a little over - and was good to go. The app is called GUIapp and is in fact freeware, not shareware as I said earlier.

Doesn't surprise me though that the O can do such stuff - it really is such an immensely well-thought out keyboard/OS and I'm sure that the Kronos builds on that kind of thinking.
