Scanning the manuals and not finding much specifically about this.

I am imagining that the indivdual inputs into the Kronos plus the stereo output of the Kronos itself will all show up as individual inputs into my DAW.

I am also hoping to turn off direct monitoring of my microphone so that I can monitor the mic only through effects in my DAW.

I would imagine there is a main output volume control for the mix of Kronos, mic & DAW that is separate from the Kronos volume, as is normal for a soundcard.

And then there should be a headphone monitoring of the soundcard mix as is normal for a soundcard.

Weird, can't find this in the manual.

Maybe what you are looking for is not in Kronos.
It sounds to me, that you are looking for features of the Motif FW16e and Cubase. I'm only guessing here..

I'm fairly certain that the USB inputs to the computer will be only L and R channels. Generally USB can only send 2 feeds at a time. FireWire interfaces can send more individual inputs. I think that the mic in on the Kronos will be mixed into the main out to the computer.

If you need several separate simultaneous audio inputs to the computer, you'll need a FireWire mixer or simlar device.

Well, that's definitely not true about USB carrying only 2 channels. In fact USB soundcards are now outperforming the FW.

Fortunately. I don't NEED Kronos to be a soundcard, but it would lighten my load to not have to bring my rackmount.

I could have sworn I read that it was, but maybe it's just sort of a psuedo-half-baked-soundcard.

Thanks, nowtime... I stand corrected. I hadn't read on this topic for a bit, and you're right. USB 1.1 was limited to 2 tracks, 2.0 can apparently do 16 theoretically. It seems that the typical 2 track limit was followed for a while after 2.0 came out, but some of the newest devices handle more.

The Kronos does, in fact handle 2 audio out tracks over the USB. From the KRONOS UK Brochure:

"Outputs
L/MONO, R: 1/4"
Balanced Individual 1-4: 1/4"
Balanced Headphones: 1/4" stereo phone jack
S/P DIF: Optical; 24-bit/48 kHz, (L/MONO, R signal)
USB-B: 24-bit/48 kHz, (L/MONO, R signal)"
