After a period of time passes, I usually get a feeling of regret when selling a keyboard. I could have used it later. Could have become a classic and it's fun to hold on to. Like when I think back to my Korg M1 and MS-20. Wish I still had that those things. My primary keyboard right now is the M3. And the Axiom Pro connected to Ableton Live. Which I usually have Omnisphere in the tracks. Depending on the sets, my additional keyboards change from show to show. Sometimes the M3 is complimented with the Virus, or Hammond, etc....
I have the Hammond because I really didn't like any of the organs in the M3.
This is my current inventory. What would you sell?
Korg Kronos 88 (2 weeks away...)
Korg MS2000 (will this be a classic?)
Korg M3 73 w/Radias
Korg microSampler (fun & portable)
Access Virus TI
Hammond XK-1
M-Audio Venom
M-Audio Axiom Pro (used for controlling Ableton and VSTs)
M-Audio Keystation Pro 88
M-Audio O2
Yamaha S08
Yamaha P120
SC Prophet-600 (completely restored and calibrated by Wine Country) _________________

I don't see why you should keep any of it except the prophet.. Kronos can match it all as far as I know. |

The Prophet is definitely a keeper that will primarily stay in my home studio. But I never play everything on one keybed. Organ here, strings there, synth there, etc....
I wonder if the Axiom Pro would be enough of a second keybed. It can be MIDI routed to additional voices in the K88. Or it can be routed to VSTs in Ableton.
My opinions of some of them.
MS2000 sounds fantastic. Can I get this exact sound, feel, arpegiation on the Kronos? It's so easy to tweak on the fly with all the knobs.
M3 w/Radias. Does the Kronos AL-1 cover the Radias enough? Would I miss anything from the core M3?
Virus' have a sound all their own. I think it's hard to duplicate. But I haven't spent much time with AL-1 yet to know if the Kronos could entirely replace a Virus. It's so easy to tweak on the fly with all the knobs.
Other keyboards I think are expendable. _________________

My 2 cents....
I'd sell everything except for the Virus IT. I used to have an entire studio full of gear and after buying the OASYS I found it made most things entirely obsolete. Looking back even now I don't regret selling a single item. You won't "Get It" until you own an KRONOS and work with it's sound engines. It has a magic you won't find in any other keyboard, well none other than the OASYS.
Regards
Sharp. |

I agree w/Robinkle.
I expect the Kronos to far surpass the M3. ( I sold my M3M in March).
And there might be a surge of used M3's soon, as the Kronos hits the stores
in the US. _________________ Kronos 88. MODX8

I agree but would keep the Prophet too. Oh and the P120 for weighted action. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

Well, you'll get the MS-20 back and then some w/ your new Kronos. Get the M1:Legacy app to cure your M1 fix (you might find, as I did, that you don't really like it as much as you remember compared to more modern instruments).
With that out of the way, I would probably sell off individual pieces after you program those sounds into the Kronos. I'm quite minimalist in my rig these days, so I don't like to keep instruments for "that one sound" or whatever. The Kronos can probably do it, and you might find that it sounds better. You'll also be forced to learn the Kronos' engines.
Start w/ the synths that you can most quickly duplicate your necessary patches in the Kronos. Piano and Hammond patches should essentially be 1:1, as in, just put in 888000000 + 5th perc, piano with 350ms delay, etc. into the Kronos and you're done with those. Maybe by the time you get to a synth that you've created a ton of very special stuff on (Virus? I have one, so I understand), you'll find that you want to keep that synth. Time will tell.
Also, if your Kronos is to become the centerpiece of your main rig, maybe just keep the item that you would play with it (I'm imagining that you use an unweighted keyboard live, too), and figure out what piece or two would cover your gigs as backup devices. Myself, I fly w/o full backup capabilites. I once had to play a hard rock gig with just a borrowed digital piano. It was awesome...so much fun that night.
This is my long winded answer for saying, "sell it all." To me, there is a lot of duplication in your rig with what I've heard the Kronos do very well. I doubt you'll play the Yamahas at all once you have the Kronos, unless you have sequences using those sounds that aren't recorded audio yet. You could also just sample them.
There's also some merit to the idea that if you haven't used something in a year, you simply don't need it. _________________ Kronos 61, Kronos2-88, Hammond B3, Baldwin SD-10 |

I would sell ALL of it except the Prophet, the Kronos can replicate all the rest. _________________ http://www.basaristudios.com

Are you selling because you want to or need to?
If it's the former, why not not keep em anyway, or at least for the time being?
You'll soon find out how redundant the machines are when the K88 turns up....

I'm with ScoobyDoo555
If it is financially possible for you, I'd keep the lot, get the K and see how you feel it all fits together.
For example, my O, mighty as it is, doesn't do Radias (in the way that Radias does it!). But I wouldn't have found that out if I had sold everything to get the O! _________________ Plugged in: Fantom 8, Jupiter-X, Jupiter 80, System-8, JD-XA, V-Synth GTv2, FA-06, SE-02, JU-06A, TR-09, VT-4, Go:Livecast, Rubix44, Shure SM7b, Push2, Ableton 11 Suite, Sibelius, KRK Rokit 5, |

I want to add though, that you shouldn't sell anything unless you need the money or need space. Selling everything is money lost since you rarely get the same amount of money back for the items. |
