And it should be only about its Build Quality not other things.
3 of my friends already said that they never owned a Workstation with this
Bad quality Build, i share the same opinion and probably worse...just an opinion.
This is not a real complain, we cant get an Oasys for 3000$ without sacrificing
anyhing but still...lets see what others have to say, and please no talks that
the KEYS are great, of course they are, this is about the synth's Build Quality.

Build quality seemed pretty good to me when I tried it at the store. I'm not concerned at all.

And you already made your point in other threads, and there's several threads on build quality already, so why do you insist on this? Sounds like a pissed off Oasys user that doesn't want others to have what you had to pay 8000 dollars for.

Have most (all?) of the complaints been about the 61-key model? I only ask because there was such a glaring discrepancy in build quality between the M50-61 (cheap, cheap, cheap) and M50-88 (pretty decent), the former allegedly built in China, and the latter in Japan. Does anyone know about the production of the different models of the Kronos? Any complaints yet about 73 or 88 key versions?

Cforena, yes, all complaints are about 61 keys, and i know you are right
about the M Series but the story is different here, it is not a cut down version
of the Kronos, it is actually the flagship itself, M3 was built almost the same in
all 3 versions but this is not the case with Kronos now.

so , let us break it down... what makes up the build quality... so we all understand what everyone is talking about...
1) mechanical aspect of the keys.
2) feel of the keys
3) casing
4) knobs
5) sliders
6) touch screen
7) inner electronics
8 ) other I/O interfaces.
9) other things...

what from this list (or more) is not good?
from various reviewers, the items 1 through 6 seems good. too early to say anything about #7. no idea about 8 & 9.
only known issue at the moment is the data wheel. which korg is saying they will send a replacement.
so what is making it feel cheep / not good for a <$3k synth?

just trying to be objective here and trying not to get this compared with the OASYS
is it just a gut feel that the controls does not feel strong , and will not last longer for live gig? are we sub consciously comparing to OASYS?

I have experienced nothing yet that gives me any concern what so ever. Even my data wheel isn't cooperating with me by coming off....

The knobs feel a bit thin, gives me bad aura.
When I press the knobs, they don't move.
The sliders are pretty hard to move to the side.
I like the smell of the inner electronics.

But I'm not sure, I never tested the Kronos yet.

I've owned over 20 pro Workstations and most of them Korg, the best built
was always Roland. The problem with the Kronos 61 is that nothing is built
good, the Faders, all the Caps on top were half way out and they can fall,
i had to push the back, the Wheel, thats a different story we all know about,
the Plastic around, nothing lines up, everything moves, crackles, joggles...
I dont know, its weird, compared whats inside that Toyish box...and yes, i still
stand on my words that the M50 was built way better.

Though the Kronos is not OASYS from a hardware perspective, it looks very nice to me. RC-IA's photos poste here show it to be class act (to me).

And given you're getting an OASYS with all expansions and then more expansions, an SV-1 - and even more - all for about half the price of an expanded OASYS, it would surely be unreasonable to expect it to have the most expensive hardware/surface controls.

However, Korg have a brick-wall solid reputation for build quality and that surely hasn't changed.

finally, though there has been a data entry dial issue, I have to say I've been very impressed indeed witht he speed with which Richy came back to reassure everyone.

Overall, I'd now feel very content about the Kronos hardware quality (though I will admit those photos showing the dial coming off worried me until Richy responded).

So far I haven't had any issues with the controls feeling cheapy, but the casing is another matter entirely. The fit of the end caps, the keybed support, the cheap joy panel, etc. It all fits together like a cheap car. Sadly, I was noticing last night that my cheapo M-Audio Venom feels far more solidly built. But, since I tend to have it stationary and work with the controls - which as I've stated seem ok to me so far - I don't have what I'd call a real issue with it. In fact I'm still excited to work with it every day when I get home.

For those stating that "It's ok for it to be cheap because it's a powerful oasys in a cheap box", well, the reason you're getting an "oasys" for this price is because computer power and touchscreen technology are cheap these days. Matching the internal power to a pricey synth from years ago is not a valid excuse for cheapness. Smile

I haven't had any feeling that the Kronos is poorly built or cheap in the 2+ weeks that I've had it (and played it daily). Maybe I got lucky, maybe people have different motivation for their words, I don't know.

Then again, it's not important to me that all the sliders and knobs feel like Rupert Neve's personal console or whatever. I wouldn't want to pay any more to get such a thing, anyway. They work. They've been consistent and reliable. They take nothing away from the parts of the instrument that really matter to me. I would never think to call any part of this thing cheap.
