I'm interested in what people think about the horns and sax sounds in the Kronos compared to the TR models. And yes, I've heard people hear say it's not as good as MOSS, but I never had MOSS. What I'm really interested in is horn sections for the Rock/Motown/Funk songs. _________________ Latest Set Up: Kronos 61, Casio Privia, Korg TR61, EoWave Ribbon, Roli Rise 48, TEC Breath Controller, StudioLogic MP-117 Bass Pedals, Moog Theremini.

The sax sounds sound like any other sampled keyboard out there. I don't really like any keyboard for sax sounds except my VL1. They are similar to any other sampled keyboard as far as I can hear.
The brass sounds are pretty good. Again, on the top end of the sampled keyboards - I wish the programs had more of a "random" quality in terms of pitch and timbre. They are just too uniform in sound for me. I feel like samples are getting away from stuff that made the patches sound more real. Remember when getting the squeaks and pitch and timbre changes and even air/spit was a programming target?
Anyway, is it true there's no search for text in a program function? I can only go by what I find in the category banks. _________________ Korg Kronos, CASIO PX-5S, Yamaha VL1, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

I am making an application to search in any program/combi and set list name. However for now you can use the program and combi list I stored in the following posts:
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=62694
and
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=62696
I have contacted Sharp about putting these lists (and in the future more useful lists) in the download section, but didn't get a reply yet. He probably is busy with his new Kronos (and the Kronos Assault). _________________

as a triton owner, I too am wondering about this. Never really impressed with any keyboard's horns section. Would love to hear a nice job on the brass in the kronos |

PinkFloydDudi, have you heard motif brass and brass from motifator.com? You'll change your mind. |

Not the built in brass of Motif? You mean added samples right? The stock Motif brass is nothing to brag about either. _________________ Korg Kronos, CASIO PX-5S, Yamaha VL1, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

If you want your brass to sound better, you have to play each instrument monophonically into the sequencer, not in chords, unless you have fantastic hands. Which I have heard, but this is pretty rare. It also helps that you program in very slight pitch fluctuations and differences. I believe on the KORG synths you can use an LFO with sample and hold set to 0 speed, then set to trigger on note down. Send this to the OSC with a depth of a couple of cents. Do this for one or two instruments in your brass section, not all, or else your brass is always going to sound chorused.
If you have to do this live, then do this for one layer in your patch, or one patch in your Combi, and also delay a couple of patches in your Combi by a few milliseconds.
On MOSS, I thought the physical modeling was outstanding, but the sound itself was weak. I don't think KORG's brass are any worse than any one else's but with all things KORG, your mileage may vary. _________________ PRAY FOR THIS PLANET!! |

Looking at page 451 of the parameters guide. 2-3b Combination's Scale - there is a random-pitch-deviation parameter. Only problem is that it appears to be for the whole combination and not individual programs. _________________ Latest Set Up: Kronos 61, Casio Privia, Korg TR61, EoWave Ribbon, Roli Rise 48, TEC Breath Controller, StudioLogic MP-117 Bass Pedals, Moog Theremini.

I think that Kronos could have done with another synth engine meant for Brass and reed instruments... Its the one weak point i could find in their soundset..
Or maybe just add DNC... because that technique would allow for some realistic sampled Brass and reed instruments... |

Programs can have their own Scale settings, including randomization. Combinations have a scale selection as well, and Programs in the Combination can either use their own scales, or the Combination's scale.
Hope this helps! _________________ Dan Phillips

I love my Kronos, but I don't like the sax sound. I'm currently trying to get the Mr. Sax T samples from Kontakt, that would be the sound that I'm looking for. If anybody knows where I could buy this sound for Kronos, I would appreciate it!
Anyway, I hope that Korg and third party sample makers will come up soon with new sounds (ideally as sound engines streamed from the SSD drive).
On the other hand I hope that Korg will make that upgrade so we can install that extra 2GB of RAM. |

Lots of people here have strong opinions about brass sounds on this keyboard or best. My belated question is: what's your gold standard? Are you comparing the KRONOS trumpet to a real (that is: non-synthesized) trumpet played by an expert, or is it simply that one keyboard seems subjectively better for your purposes (and very well might be)?
What's your standard of reference? _________________ Motif XF8, Kronos-88 (ordered), V-Synth GT, DT-Extreme eDrums
