|
|
My K-88 from SweetWater is finally in-transit. They got 40 units, and I was #51 on the preorder list, so I got lucky. Meanwhile, I set up a back-up pre-order with a retailer in the greater Portland area, where they have already put a hold on my credit card. Which brings us to where maybe you get lucky.
Assuming I don't end up needing it myself (see below), I'll simply let the unit show up at the store, wait for you to arrive there, and call in a return without ever picking it up (manager is aware this may happen). You'll end up the lucky devil standing there when the last K-88 unit available in the US goes on sale at a pretty nice price. The retailer catches a break too; they'll have to match my invoice price from SweetWater ($3450), which is a good price, but higher than the price they gave me. Meanwhile I get my unit a bit sooner and I save myself a really long round-trip drive to pick it up. Everybody wins.
The retail sales tax rate in Oregon is zero. Depending on where you live, that might ease the pain of your drive.
Some qualifiers:
1. The delivery to the retailer could screw up for some reason. That's why we wait for the unit to get there.
2. There aren't really any available replacement units in the US yet. If FedEx breaks my new toy on the way from SweetWater to me, you'll be out of luck. I just don't love anybody here that much yet.
3. A close friend up here has first dibs. I'm having dinner with him tonight to find out what he wants to do.
4. You'll need to pick up in person - can't redirect delivery without having the unit go back into the preorder pool.
If you live within a reasonable driving distance of Portland, and you want to get your paws on a K-88, PM me your contact info.
First come, first served. If I get more than five interested contacts, I'll let people know to stop.
Mildly terrified at what's about to happen to my forum in-box, and wondering belatedly why I didn't think to pre-order a lot more units. _________________ Motif XF8, Kronos-88 (ordered), V-Synth GT, DT-Extreme eDrums

Are you sure about this? Has the store manager agreed to do so? Why would the store match *your* invoice price for another buyer? |

I am confident because (a) store policy requires them to match a legitimately documented third party price, and (b) they make more money by cooperating. They may not match the price they offered me, but they are required to match the SW invoiced price. But yes, as I said, the store manager is aware that I may cancel, and that I will try to ensure he has a second buyer.
The concern is valid, and I will make sure that whoever leads the line has the information to contact the in-store manager directly if they wish. You can always walk away.
Right now the only decision you need to make is whether to get in line or not by indicating possible interest via PM. _________________ Motif XF8, Kronos-88 (ordered), V-Synth GT, DT-Extreme eDrums

You lock a price for a buyer from another store match price. _________________ http://www.basaristudios.com

The unit was taken by a friend of mine here in Seattle. It is no longer available. _________________ Motif XF8, Kronos-88 (ordered), V-Synth GT, DT-Extreme eDrums
