|
|
Hi folks,
Hope you had good weekend! I'm currently debating with myself about whether to buy K73 or a K88, that greatly depends on the following:
- There is a restriction by airlines for check-in baggage up to a max of 32 KG. So, For my current pre-order K73, I need a flight case that weighs less than 11 KG. I can't find such flight case in the UK/Europe. Also, those extra check-in KGs are expensive. That pushed K88 out of consideration for me.
- I could use international Cargo services but am not aware of their rates, reliability etc. Can any forum members post their experience, which cargo services in the UK are cost effective and reliable etc?
My K73/K88 decision is linked to these aspects as I may need to carry the keyboard internationally once in every 3 months. i would very much appreciate any suggestions...!! |

Just one more addition (off topic) - are you guys using a mechanism such as this:

to carry the keyboard around? I'm thinking that for local commute I will just buy a gig bag and a trolly like this. If that's a sensible thing to do(?), any recommendation for trolly? |

I would go with a 61 and then rent a weighted controller for the back line.
I use the rock and roll cart. Worth every cent. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

This might be an odd question, but why don't you just rent a Kronos for the tour and keep your set up on a usb drive.
You should be able to load your data into the rental and have it behave exactly like the unit you have sitting at home. |

I bet it would be really hard to get a Kronos on a rider. Not many rental companies have them I bet. _________________ Korg Kronos, RD-88, Yamaha VL1, Deep Mind 6, Korg Kross, author of unrealBook for iPad. |

I recommend a flight case with built-in wheels, such as these from Road-Ready. I've wheeled my 61 note keyboards (admittedly, I don't have an 88 ) through many airports on connecting flights with this, and it works great:

Hi Stephan, I considered that case but 23KG case + K61 12.5 KG makes it impossible to fit within 32 KG cap. For K73 or K88 that's further away from the cap.
Just found this for K73, only 10 KG so looks like we have found a solution:

Hope Swan cases are reliable.. |

Hi Stephan, just to confirm, did you mean those cases or bags, such as "GIG SKINZ 76 KEYS KEYBOARD BAG WITH WHEELS"? Bags seems to be quite low in weight (8.5 - 10 KG) and if these are good to check-in, it sounds like a breeze! |

NEVER EVER EVER fly with anything less than ATA quality cases. Assume they will thrown anything and everything on your keyboard. They don't care. I can tell you a couple personal stories about music equipment and broken golf clubs. _________________ Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha). |
