More like clipping. I just want to make sure this is normal.
Basically, if i make say.. a pipe organ with three layers that are each VERY load, going into a few effects.. is it normal to hear a little bit of crackle? Not much, but it goes away when i turn down a trim or something (keep in mind this patch is 100x louder then any others) but none the less it still crackles whether i turn it up or down (master volume)
I'm gonna assume it is on account that on my triton/karma it would do the same thing with certain types of leads with reverb.
Thanks for any input. _________________

yah, that's normal. Things at loud volumes distort.
The M3/M50 would distort a lot earlier and is uncontrollable in some situations.
No worries... perfectly normal. _________________ Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha). |

How are you enjoying the Kronos Mchale? Some of the triton stuff on it sounds even better huh? _________________

Wow dan.. that just answered my question perfectly! thank you so much!
Any suggestions on where to keep the headroom?
Also, I am wondering is there is any internal VU meter like the M3 or i think the fantom G. that would be good to know.
thanks again! _________________

I keep the headroom at the max setting of +48.
I agree that it would be nice to have a dedicated meter. When I need one, I just temporarily put down a Stereo Mastering Limiter, which has nice metering. Mostly, I just listen - and if it distorts, I turn down the volume somewhere in the digital domain (not the main volume knob). The floating-point signal path is quite forgiving as far as gain-staging goes. _________________ Dan Phillips

very good idea! Usually in mastering effects i just use the O-verb (which is seriously, the best reverb ive heard... I like it better then the lexicons!) so i think i can sacrifice one for a limiter to get that meter.
could you by any chance tell me how to make the limiter not do anything besides give me a meter? Sometimes i use a limiter to give a gain boost to really quiet sounds, and i just turn the ratio (i think the ratio, by default its -25db though) and raise it up to 0 and then mess with the gain adjust. and to me it sounds like its just doing a gain boost. am I right? or is there another way to make it not do anything but gain adjust?
I appreciate all the help i've gotten from you and other korg affiliates, youre the man! thanks! _________________

if you want the limiter to do nothing to the signal then make the raito 1:1 and threshold 0.
Also Lexicon > O-Verb! The O-Verb is pretty good but man you cant even compare. |

oh dude the lexicon reverb isnt exactly meant for that kind of reverb, though with enough tweaking it could be. The O-verb will be better for your lead for sure. |

Sure - use Bypass. The meter will still work.
