This is an original of my bands! Called "Into The Howling Dark"

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3657402/05%20Into%20The%20Howling%20Dark%20copy.mp3

Cover of the band Ensiferum's song Treacherous Gods (Thanks to Stephen kay for giving me advice on how to make SST work with the bug i found in this song)

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3657402/04%20Treacherous%20Gods%20copy.mp3

Im aware the keyboards can be kind of low. as some parts. But for a quick spare of the moment mix (the sound guy liked us and clicked record) not too bad! My kronos was awesome live! having no cut outs between patches made it all the more magical!

Thanks korg for this awesome keyboard!

I can't stand those "cookie monster" vocals. I skipped around a bit though and the keys sound very nice!

I'm not a fan of those type of vocals but I must say, I find myself listening to Opeth all the time.

OP... Good stuff and thanks for posting.

I just can't get along with metal of any kind, except a few things from Japan, but it does sound very good for that style. Well, harfing vocals aside... Wink

I prefer my loud stuff with a more melodic delivery, say Porcupine Tree, or Symphony X when he's not growling, but it's great to see all genres in this box, not just jazz, piano and see how many notes I can play. (I love Jazz, piano and Jordan, as well as Eno and Richard Barbieri, I'm not trying to start an argument. Smile ) I wonder what Tangerine Dream would have thought of the Kronos, way back when they were playing giant telephone exchanges?

Haha! I'm aware that the type of music i play is very uncommon for your synth folk. But it does hold its own very well!

you guys should check out some other heavier bands without 'harfing' vocals. like rhapsody of fire.

other bands similar to mine would be bands like Kalmah.

Rhapsody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTKiM5D_PpA

Kalmah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnZOQ__Dl4E

Hail!

other then that I'm really into some old proggy stuff....Rush... Yes, ELP.. Rush!

did i mention rush!!

I, for one, have nothing against the growling, if it's well done. And it's well done here. It's the vocalist's singing voice that wasn't very good to me. Laughing But as robbinhood said to me in a PM, they were pretty wasted. Razz

That was helluva great drumming there, too!

Wasted... doesnt even begin to describe that night...

Mr adams had a nice time with me, then we visited mr cuervo! Then after we had some guiness and some shitty pilsner...
I never drink/do edibles before shows or even on my own time... This show was an exception because it was at a park! We still played good though!

Good songs, being myself a huge folk metal fan Wink
I do perform in a symphonic metal band though, will perhaps post some songs when our 2nd demo is over.

I like this kind of music, especially if the growling vocals are mixed and contrasted with smoother singing. I agree with another post that the non-growling singing for the vocalist are the weak parts. Here the band sounds great, including the Kronos playing!

Other symphonic and power metal bands with lots of keyboards that I like include:

Symphony X (Russell Allen is probably my favorite metal vocalist)
Kamelot
Epica
Ayreon (and Arjen Lucassen's new band Star One)
Pain of Salvation (prefer their older stuff)

I also like Opeth but there are fewer keyboards in there. I am sorta tired of Dream Theater but still like their old stuff.

An addition that many of the metal bands like this could use is a competent lyricist. For me it sorta blows it when the music is really cool but the lyrics are moronic. I think that Nevermore's last couple of releases fall into this category for example.

I love ALL their stuff! (Pain Of Salvation is also one of the rare prog/metal/notsometaltodaybutstillawesome bands which have extremely competent lyricist and main mastermind Smile)

And they're coming to Croatia! Yay!

I'd agree that Russell Allen is one of the better voices in rock, but try Porcupine Tree's "Anaesthetize" for a how to... in ambient to metal to harmonies to metal to ambient etc. Fantastic keyboard textures all the way through.

Epica

I have seen Epica live 2 times and they are really good. The singer (female) is outstanding. However with the new guitarist it has become more grunge which is not my style.

And a pro/con regarding the keyboards:
- they have a separate person creating the orchestral parts
- those parts are NOT played live during gigs

Too bad we learnt the band a bit late because their earlier cd's were far more better.

More bands:
Within Temptation
Lacuna Coil
Edenbridge (tough as far as I know, no live keyboards)
Nightwish
