|

Why not default each MIDI channel 1G???
Every time I create a new Combi and add programs to the tracks in the Combi, timbre's 2-16 require changing the midi channel to a global channel to output sound.
Why doesn't the Kronos default to a global channel so I don't pull my hair out each time trying to find out why my track program does not produce sound!!!
Grrrrr!!!! |

I guess it's from when you make a song each timbre has its own midi channel. However, you are right that most people use combis for splits/layering instead of multitrack.
I have two keyboards, so I use only MIDI channel 1 and 2. _________________

Edit an initialized, empty Combi so that all timbres use 1G. Save. There's your startpoint for making new combis that behaves exactly how you want. |

1 easy solution... (and you shouldn't STILL be pulling your hair out trying to figure it out.... )
Just create a template (name it combi template) with all the tracks/parts on the global midi channel and then you're good to go for the future. _________________ Please subscribe and follow me on Youtube and Facebook for information related audio technology.

If a combi would default to having all tracks on the global channel, you'd have sixteen "default" patches sounding, when you might only want to layer two or three. Which would be at least as annoying as having to change a few midi channels. The above solution seems good enough for your purposes. |

I would suggest setting everyone except the first to Mute. _________________

More like set to 'off' status. mute still uses polyphony i believe.
I think ill do that tomorrow.. make a combi template or just all tracks get to GCH (better incase you need ot change the global channel) and set all status to off except timbre 1. _________________

Yes I mean Off (actually to be sure I mostly do it both). _________________

I don't see how that is somehow more convenient than just dealing with the midi channels. |

Youre missing the point man.
Can't you see KORGS LOGIC IS FLAWED?
CANT YOU SEE THAT KORG SHOULDVE DONE IT PERFECTLY THE FIRST TIME?
DONT YOU SEE HOW MUCH OF AN INFERIOR WORKSTATION THIS IS BECAUSE OF THIS?
sheesh...

Hehe.
I guess this is where the "mute without losing polyphony" would really shine, though, since there are direct switches for muting parts.
I've dealt with Karma and Triton Extreme long enough that setting up a new combi is really quick, I don't really care about the midi channels. But the direct access muting would be a really good way to solve this. |

I mostly copy a combi from another combi which resembles what I want/need and then adapt it.
On the other hand, mostly I remove/add timbres and it would be nice to have some sort of sort functionality for timbres (e.g. based on MIDI). _________________

Having all channels at 1 by Default would really sux and it would make a
nightmare for programmers...it is done that way with a logic behind that.
When creating a Combi with KARMA from scratch thats when the Logic comes
in that, imagine 16 Pianoc sounding all at once. _________________ http://www.basaristudios.com

That's why you also can set them to OFF. _________________

But if you're doing a combi without the need for KARMA, but, say, doing some splits and layers for live performance, having them all on 1G is helpful. |
