I love the rhythm guitar sounds Pinback gets.

Here's what we did with a guitar part tonight. SM57 snug up against the rim of a 12" Traynor tube combo amp speaker, Godin strat in fairly loud but clean, with a Neumann TLM103 up about 10 feet away to get the room (we padded the room with moving blankets to deaden most reflections). The guitar player did some nice chunky rhythmic chugs. Then we tracked the part again rather than copy/paste. SM57 tracks panned approx 20 L+R, TLM103 tracks panned full left and right to 63 and down about 4db from the SM57 tracks. We got that huge clean punchy Pinback sound, and hopefully we'll just need to notch out a few lows with the eq once the bass player finishes up his tracks.
