What was your first 'real' instrument(s), or the first instrument you have good memories of (probably learned to play)?

My first instrument was an organ, where I don't know the brand of anymore. I was 8. About 5 years later I got a new organ which I still have: a Farfisa Lido.
Offtopic: somebody interested can pick it up for free (it has a few damages but still sound good ... for an around 1980 organ).

My first was a Farfisa combo organ with a small Leslie. I use to like this knee controller on it that would open up the filter. Played that in bands through out High School. Before that the family owned an old upright and later a Conn Strummer (still in the house), but the Farifsa was MY first keyboard. I would put the Farfisa on top of the Leslie and roll it to a friends house a few blocks away for jam sessions. Very Happy

I think I saw pictures of those combo organs, they were quite popular (both types).

I only started playing in bands when I was 19 or so ... a bit of a late starter, and even after barely playing for a few years. My first instrument when playing with others was a Yamaha SH101 if I remember right, it was more like a toy. When playing in a band, I bought my first synth: Kawai K4 which I sold later when going to Korg. Actually the Kawai was quite bad (compared to the popular Korg M1 at that time), but I couldn't offord it.

what about those four and six and twelve string acoustic and electric instruments? my first real instrument was the bass guitar, although I messed around a few times with the family's home keyboard as a kid, mainly enjoying the 'demo' button and pretending I could play Embarassed

Before even picking up the bass though I was designing modular synthesizers in synth-edit since a friend was interested in producing radiophonic-workshop type sounds. Interestingly, THAT is what got me into music.

I saved and bugged my parents for a while until I got a microKorg for my birthday. I've been accumulating keyboards ever since.

My first instrument was a guitar. After that, my first keyboard was a Yamaha SY35 that I bought from a friend 3 years ago. I miss it, it was a lovely vector synth!

I'm afraid the last option was not included (I had filled it in the poll options but probably didn't hit return): it was 'Non keyboard instrument' ...

I really don't hate guitars ... we have 2 (or 3 if you count bass guitar too) in the band I play in ....

But I cannot add it now.

I started on the accordeon. I had glasses and braces too, the full highschool nerd hattrick. But nowadays I'm glad that I did 'cause it's not something I'd likely have picked up if I'd started on piano like the normal kids Wink

My first 'instrument' was a tea-chest bass. Used to cart it on the bus, stowed under the stairs. Then one rainy night the bus conductor wouldn't let me on with it and the 'bass' and myself got soaking wet waiting for the next bus. Hey, I got to the gig, though. Laughing
