Is there any truth that a solid state drive only last 5 years before they start to fail? Shocked

No, it should read 5 months.

A sata drive lasts 5 months before it fails. (If you're lucky, and don't use it, that is.)

You edit...so will I! lol.

That is very much a myth. SSD are pretty brand new so there is no real lasting research on how long they will last. From research, it seems they are looking at about 20 years of use, which I believe is 2x what is expected from a regular drive

=)

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Life on ssd drives has mostly to do with the number of times data is over writen so in this applaction it should last forever
